[~THE GODDESS OF DEATH~]
Mashael sat at the counter of a bar. She often used to go there before she went into retirement. That was the place she’d go to relieve herself of stress, her everyday life was full of it. Now that she was back in the city, she couldn’t help but drop by. She had been stressed for over a year. As she sat at the counter, she could hear people chattering and whispering about her in the back in all corners of the bar, and she could feel their eyes staring at her.
Her life was always like that. Wherever she went, people would stare and gossip about her, mostly in admiration, but sometimes also in hatred. She was a very popular person known almost to everyone in many places. She was a hero to many, a savior. She was the symbol of Hope. Many believed in her and looked up to her as their protector in the shadows. She was praised and sometimes even worshiped. Every you go, they spoke her name and her title. Mashael The hunter, the GREATEST WARRIOR man had ever known. The bravest and the boldest. A woman capable of doing a man’s work better than a man himself. Some believed she was a man in a woman’s body. Many people had her to thank for their lives. A lot looked up to her and believed in her. She was hope.
But Mashael never gave a single care about popularity or Fame. She was never the prideful one. She was not your typical Human. What fascinated or interested a normal human, would have the opposite effect on her. Infact whenever there was trouble, she would just show up to rid of it, and then disappeared before people could even thank her. Never stuck around long enough to associate with people, or enjoy their admiration. She was never a fan of all that. She always focused on her job and her job only. She was a very hard going person who preferred sitting alone in a corner than socializing. She loved her personal space, rarely laughed or smiled, and you’d never hear her speak unless it was about serious matters. Which is why she never had friends, and only had less than a handful of people with close relations with her. It brought a whole level of mysteriousness to her character of which the people found fascinating. The lone warrior, they called her. Her heart was hard as stone and never easy to emotions.
The reason she was hard going person was because of a childhood trauma that developed an uncontrollable anger and ever-burning fury inside of her. She was hard on the world because the world was hard on her. What else would you expect from somebody who watched her own family get murdered by something unexplained?
It happened on the day she first discovered her first Hunter’s power. The ability to separate her spiritual form from her physical form, into something called the Astral form. When a Hunter is their Astral form, their physical body would be unconscious because it’s been separated from it’s spirit. Then in the astral form, a Hunter would walk the earth unseen to the naked eye and untouchable to any physical being, like a Ghost… Mashael was only about 10years old when she developed this ability. She left her sister and Parents at home and went to play at some children’s playground far from home. She had been playing on a swing when she swung so hard that she got thrown off it and fell to the ground so hard that she passed out. When she opened her eyes, she mysteriously found herself back home. That was when a Demon crawled out of the bathroom drain and attacked her sister in her bedroom. Her first time seeing something out of the natural. Mashael tried to help her sister but she was shocked to discover that nobody could see, hear or touch her. Neither could she touch anything. She was there, but to everybody else’s eyes, she was not. She thought she was dreaming, but little did she know she had astral projected to her house and her physical body was still unconscious at the playground. Before she woke up back into her physical body, the last thing she saw was the Demon choking her sister. Immediately she was back in her real body she ran back home only to find her sister and Mother both dead on the floor. The Demon killed them and took her father. Two days later, the Father’s body was found dead in a river. The first time she astral projected, she saw an Actual Demon kill her family.
Nobody believed her story. Instead, they believed the father killed the family and later committed suicide. That was the only logical explanation the people came up with. The case was closed just like that. But Mashael knew the real truth. That incident changed her forever. It developed an anger inside of her that never went away. The same anger that made her begin to despise everything that was above Human nature. A fury that made her crave vengeance. Which led her to a martial arts school where she trained for years. She lost her smile and happiness through it all. Her fury and thirst for vengeance made her so determined that she became one of the Greatest Fighters and Swordswoman. From their she begun to have mysterious Visions that led her seeking for answers to her family’s death and the discovery of her nature as a Hunter. From there on, she swore to herself to rid the world of anything supernatural and hunt down anything that posed a threat to the innocent. It was a way of avenging her family. She was to dedicate her whole life to this cause and this cause only. And so she did. She rose to up to being a protector among men and became a symbol of Hope everywhere she stepped foot. Mashael the Hunter, world’s greatest warrior. For years and years more… Until she led the victory in the secret war against Death, and then disappeared from the face of the world. Leaving no trace or word.
But now she was back. Everybody was surprised to see her again, alive, after suspecting she was dead. Which was what the gossiping was about as she sat in that bar that day.
