Apparently Bruce Banner wasn't joking when he said that the God of Thunder was sending her his pop tarts, because a few days later a package was delivered to her, just a few hours before going on stage.
She was walking around the arena with Maya when a woman came with a box in her hands, telling her it was for Djamila. The young girl was surprised, to say the least: it was appropriate to say she never received any packages. She shared a suspicious look with Maya and they sat down on the pavement, both of them eager to see what was inside. Djamila opened the box and inside she found… pop tarts?
“No fucking way” she laughed in disbelief. “Bruce was actually serious.”
“He's not Sirius, he's Bruce.” Maya replied with a grin. The brunette raised a brow at her, usually she made the Sirius jokes. “Okay, pop tarts, right, focus.”
“This man who's like a thousand years old is actually a child.” She shook her head, still not believing that he sent her some pop tarts when she could actually buy them at the store down the street.
“How'd he know where to send this to?” Maya asked.
“Well, he is Tony Stark's soulmate, so,”
“Oh, right.”
She was about to eat one when her phone rang. She saw it was a FaceTime call from…
Tony motherfucking Stark.
“No way I'm answering this” she looked at her phone who kept ringing, with no intention of talking with the man.
“Why not? You talked to Peter Parker!” Her friend told her.
“Yes, but this is Tony Stark we're talking about. One wrong word and he could erase my existence!” Djamila reminded her.
“True” Maya shrugged “But not picking up could also offend him so,” she grabbed her friend's phone, answered and held it in front of them. Djamila widened her eyes at the blonde, mentally planning her murder.
What the fuck?
She looked at the screen and saw a lot of faces, all trying to fit in the frame.
Okay, how can they be so deadly yet so cute at the same time?
"Hi?” she said, unsure. Everyone greeted her back. She immediately felt good, just like she had with Peter.
Honestly, Djamila, only you could fall for people who already have soulmates and are in a commited relationship.
And, just like with Peter, she didn't know they felt the same feeling. The only difference was that they were already familiar with it, they felt it in each other's presence. So, it was safe to say they were all a bit perplexed, but they decided to ignore it and see what would happen when they met in person.
That's how they would be sure.
“Hello sweetheart” Tony grinned at her. “Friday just told us that Thor's present was delivered to you”
“Yeah, thank you, by the way” she looked at the God and smiled at him.
“It was my pleasure, Lady Djamila. No one should live without pop tarts” he said in a very serious tone.
“Anyway” Natasha spoke up. “This is Steve, finally you guys meet as well”.
“Hello, Mr. Rogers, Captain America, Sir” she greeted him, a little bit agitated. It was Captain America!
He laughed, admiring her face. “Hello there, ma'am. You can call me Steve.”
“Ma'am? Do I look 40 to you?” It was her turn to laugh now. “Djamila is fine.” Bucky was laughing at the man and his old manners which he still had. “Oh, by the way, this is Maya.” she gestured towards her best friend, who was grinning the whole time. It was kind of creepy. They all greeted her.
“Not that I don't enjoy talking to the Avengers, but why did you call?” Maya blurted out. Djamila hit her shoulder.
“Don't be rude” she whispered. They looked at each other and laughed, both of them thinking of that video of Kim hitting her sister with the purse.
The others watched the scene with fond smiles, they enjoyed seeing Djamila happy.
“We didn't know it was a crime to call” Pietro said sarcastically. “Thor insisted on seeing Djamila eating a pop tart for the first time. Anyway, how come you never had one?”
“Well, I grew up in Romania and there weren't any pop tarts. When I moved here at seventeen, since I didn't know what they were and their appearance didn't intrigue me, I never tried them” she shrugged. She opened the box, took a pop tart and took a bite. Thor was watching her excitedly, waiting for her to realize what she had been missing on, just like him. “Wow, okay” she said, covering her full mouth with her hand. “This is really good” she smiled and everyone cheered, Thor being the loudest.
“I knew you would like them, Lady Djamila” he grinned.
“Well thank you, you made Thor very happy” Steve smiled at her.
“I'm glad” she replied, while still eating. She hoped she wasn't going to get addicted to them just like the God.
It felt nice to finally be able to talk to Steve as well. Over the last month, almost two, she had gotten to know everyone and she wanted to do the same with the Captain. She took a mental note to text him and make an effort, just like with his soulmates.
And that's how they spent the next hour, talking and laughing with each other.
