The rain falls and the fresh water mixes with the blood leaking out of your left arm.
Desperately you search for a way to escape the situation you're trapped in currently. During your daily patrol you were ambushed by a group of Ruin Hunters and even though you are a strong and experienced fighter, having to fight against multiple of those quickly ends in someones death.
'...Damn...it...', you barely breathe out because exhaustion is kicking in.
'I have the feeling that even if I survive this, Jean will kill me for being so reckless... No cuddles for a week really drains me of my life energy...'
One of the ancient machines charges forward and almost hits your head.
'Ok (Y/N), if you don't concentrate and watch out for your enemies, this WILL be your last day on earth.'
You use the close proximity to the Ruin Hunter to stab it in its exposed core. The shock paralyses it and allows you to finish it off.
'Two more to go.'
The two remaining opponents seem to work together as thy start attacking you simultaneously. You dodge them as far as possibly. After you blink one of the machines is suddenly gone.
Looking left and right you are unable to spot it, but a gust of wind behind you answers you the question of where it went. Due to the fact that you are sandwiched between two Ruin Hunters ready to kill you, you have no chance to avoid both of their blades.
'...!'
You await the tremendous pain and your end to come, but they don't. Behind you see a familiar face that blocks of the attack that was meant for you.
'Jean, why are you here so suddenly?!'
She uses her Vision to create a field which instantly heals your bleeding wounds. 'I had a bad feeling about your patrol today, so went after you. Looks like I was right.'
Together the two of you manage to win the fight. Being finally freed of the death threat, exhaustion takes over and darkness greets you as you collapse.
The woman beside you notices this and quickly kneels down next to you checking whether or not you are still alive.
'Thank Barbatos, she is alive. I should get you to a doctor quickly.', she says and picks you up cautiously.
A few hours later you open up your eyes again. 'Where...am I?'
'In the headquarters. You are safe now. How do you feel?', a soft voice answers. Next to the bed you're in sits Jean giving you a smile matching her tone.
