"Sultan Melikshah Hazretleri!" Mehmet looks away as the Sultan walks into the courtyard. Beside him stands a tall young man with light brown hair. "If you say something stupid, I will hit you," Sencer says as the Sultan walks towards them. Mehmet scoffs, "What do you think I'm going to do, Sencer? Calm down."
"Are you the Head Guard?" Melik Tapar asks and Sencer bows his head slightly in respect, "Yes, Melik Hazretleri." The Melik nods before walking to his horse, Sencer turns to Mehmet. "That's Melik Tapar, the Sultan's youngest son." Mehmet just nods, following Sencer back to their horses.
Later That Day~
The group had stopped for the night, resting in the forest. The soldiers had lit a couple of fires, while Tapar and Sencer talked quietly. "How does he talk so normally when he's talking to a Melik?!" Mehmet asks and Balaban shrugs, "Sencer can talk to anyone normally, it doesn't affect him."
As Tapar got up to talk to his soldiers, Mehmet scoots over to Sencer. "Hey, Want to hear a joke?" Sencer looks at him in disbelief, "Are you serious? We're in the presence of a Melik and you're asking to make a joke?"
Mehmet nods, "Who said Meliks can't have a sense of humor?" Sencer facepalms as Tapar walks back over to them, sitting down. "What happened, Sencer?" "Nothing, Melik Hazretleri, Mehmet is asking something stupid," Tapar smiles slightly, "What is it, Mehmet?"
Mehmet shoots Sencer a look of triumph, "I was asking Sencer if I could tell a joke." Sencer looks like he'd rather be anywhere, but there. Tapar glances at Sencer and then looks back at Mehmet, "Go ahead, Mehmet, tell us your joke."
Sencer glares at Mehmet, and Mehmet just grins, "Alright, so 3 alps went to the edge of a cliff to see a magical man. The magician tells them to say one word and jump off the cliff, whatever they say will appear beneath them to cushion their fall." Tapar nods, an intrigued look on his face while Sencer looks annoyed, but also interested.
"So the first alp says, "Hay!" He jumps off and lands in a pile of hay. The second alp says, "Pillows!" He jumps off and lands in a pile of pillows. Now, the third alp is about to jump, but he trips on a pebble and yells, "Oh crap!"
Everyone starts to laugh, and Mehmet grins proudly, "Who was that third alp, Mehmet? You?" Bozkus asks, laughing and Mehmet shakes his head with a mischievous smirk. "Nope, It was Sencer."
Tapar laughs, as Sencer shakes his head, in slight disappointment. Tapar enjoyed the time he spent with Sencer and Mehmet, usually, all his missions were serious and boring. Most soldiers were afraid to say anything in front of him, but Mehmet and Sencer were different. They weren't afraid to have fun, to laugh.
Tapar felt like he fit with them, they joked around like they were good friends like he wasn't the son of the Sultan.
The next morning, they continued their journey to Anatolia, Tapar informed them on what exactly they were to do when they arrived at the tribe. They were ordered not to engage or draw their weapons at any point.
They rode into the tribe, and Mehmet looked around while both Tapar and Sencer kept their eyes forward. From what Mehmet saw, the tribe's people weren't exactly happy to see them. "We are here to escort Kilic Arslan's sister to Isfahan on the Sultan's orders."
Tapar kept his voice strong and even, gone was the Tapar that was laughing just yesterday. Tapar stood as a strong, powerful Melik. "You only come here to collect tax and shed blood. You already took Kilic Arslan, we will not allow you to take his sister as well."
The other beys nod in agreement and Mehmet frowned, looking at Tapar to see what he would say next. "It is an order of the Sultan, refusing his order is an act of rebellion." An arrow whizzed through the air, embedding itself in the ground between Melik Tapar and the beys. The soldiers' hands went to their swords, readying themselves for whatever was to come.
A woman dressed in alp armor stepped forward, a bow in her hand. "I am Kilic Arslan's sister, and if the Sultan orders, I shall go." The beys look at her in confusion, "These are the same people who imprisoned your brother, why-" "My word is final, anyone that disobeys me, will feel the wrath of my sword."
The beys go silent as Tapar nods, "We will wait outside the tribe." With that he turns his horse, riding out from the way they came. "Woah, he's really cool," Mehmet notes as he rides beside Sencer who turns to him. "Seriously? You've never called me cool before, you only met Melik Tapar yesterday and he's the cool one."
Mehmet shrugs, "Sorry Sencer, the truth hurts."
Once Elcin rides out of the tribe, they continue on the path back to Isfahan, crossing into a dense forest. Mehmet looks around at the tall trees and thick bushes, 'Hey, this would be a great spot for an ambush.' He thinks and just as he turns to look the other way, an arrow flies past him, hitting the soldier behind him.
"Damn it, I think I cursed it," Mehmet curses under his breath as he jumps off his horse and grabs his shield. He puts his shield up, protecting himself from the volley of arrows, as he slowly moves over to where Sencer and Tapar stood. "Mehmet!" Sencer shouts and Mehmet turns, leaving his left arm exposed to the arrows.
An arrow zooms towards Mehmet, embedding itself in his left arm, Mehmet winces. "You have a shield, kid, USE IT!" Tapar shouts, Sencer sighs, "Just get over here, Mehmet." Mehmet slowly finds his way next to Sencer where they had formed a wall of shields, "You alright, Mehmet?" Sencer asks, and Mehmet grins, flipping his hair back, "Do I look alright?"
Sencer sighs again, "Why did I even ask?" Mehmet looks at their attackers who carried glass bottles filled with some sort of liquid, "Um... Sencer? What's that?" Before Sencer can reply, the men throw the bottles, forming a circle around them, Mehmet spots archers holding arrows topped with fire. "Oh shi-," Mehmet blurts as Sencer looks around as well, "Hey, watch the language, Mehmet."
Tapar lets out a small chuckle, "We're about to get burned alive and you're worried about his language, Sencer?" "Wait, we're about to get burned alive?!" Mehmet asks, just as the men fire the arrows, lighting a bright ring of flames around them.
"We'll either find a way out or be destroyed by the flames."
