she sits quietly
I sit down and hand her the journal

did you like them, she asks.
I shake my head.
they made me sad, I say.
because I don't want you to feel like I do.
she smiles
but that's the thing,
you needed to know I felt that way,
so we could be sad together.
I nod.
what's your name, I ask
emily, she answers
