she is laughing
I haven't heard that sound in three months
she says the voices are gone
I want to believe her
but I won't
not until she is six months clean
she's halfway there.
and I'll be with her every step of the way

long red dress
white converse
curled hair
sparkling eyes
bright smile
I am in a daze
are we going on this date or what, she asks
I say, of course we are. it's our first official date. I wouldn't miss it for the world.
she smiles
and I smile back
both of us
clear of voices
finally free from
