dani for some reason always found herself fascinated by the means of fire. its bright orange or blue hues always drawn her in close.
she loved any type of fire, including fireworks. although fireworks weren't the type of fire dani loved to watch, she was intrigued by the large explosion of color before the sprinkle of little pops followed as the color dissipated from the sky.

she wanted to light fireworks at the game as a small show, to show others of its quick beauty whilst they played their game. however she told herself she'd have to wait until after their vigil before she even thought about lighting any fireworks. she found it would be rude to light fireworks during the moment of silence for those who lost their lives in the mall.

she already held onto enough guilt, she couldn't handle any more.

dani let out a boisterous laugh at the sight of the smeared green paint. "dude!" she held her forearm over her mouth as she laughed harder.
simon rolled his eyes playfully "hurry up!" he rushed "the bus leaves soon!" simon smiled as a throaty laugh escaped his mouth.
"i'm so sorry! you just look like that guy from the mask!" she started laughing harder at the sight of him and his striking resemblance to jim carrey's most recent movie. his bright green face matched the bright green paint smudged on dani's fingers and the paintbrush in her hand, and for some reason it made her laugh harder.

she stood in the girls bathroom with simon, helping the boy paint his face green for the game tonight as he was their schools mascot. he tied the look together with a witches hat, a cheap broomstick, and a long black cardigan he borrowed from dani's mess of a locker.
"dani!" simon's laughter bounced off the bathrooms walls as the two continued to joke about his makeup.
and even if it wasn't fire, dani found herself mesmerized by his smile.

after a couple of more minutes dedicated to laughing at the horrible paint job dani managed to do. it was time for the bus to leave. dani walked closely behind simon, a large group of the football players packed in behind her which made for the perfect cover. the bus driver wouldn't even notice her, she had managed to score a free ride and she quietly applauded herself for being overlooked.
"i get the window seat!" she told simon, clambering in the leather seats to make sure she was seated right next to the window.
"you always do though." simon argued before he sat down next to her "on the ride back i'm getting it." he told her. his tone determined to get the depressing window seat, which if you stared out of it the entire time you could see the difference between the rundown houses in shadyside in comparison to sunnyvales bright mansions. dani loved this about the window seat. the girl always imagined what life would be like in one of those beautiful houses.

dani glanced over, turning away from the depressing sight of the rundown homes in her home town. her lips curled into a smile before she knocked simon's witch hat off and into the aisle "i'd like to see you try." she laughed.
simon promptly flipped his middle finger up at the girl before he bent down to pick up his witch hat "keep playing like that and i'll hit you with my broomstick." he threatened playfully. dani rolled her eyes at the weak threat "hit me and you won't ever get the window seat."
