julie davies hated summer camp.

the lack of air conditioning mixed with continuous bullying the shadysiders received from the sunnyvalers always gave enough reasons to dread summer.

julie spent the day before camp begging her mother to let her stay home.

"please!" julie pleaded for what seemed like the hundredth time just that day. her mother rolled her eyes at the constant begging, "please mom! i'll do anything!" she clasped her hands in front of her "i'll help you with the house! or i could watch dani while lainey and mark work! just please," julie begged, she would go far lengths to stay home "don't send me away this year, please!" julie's mother crossed her arms, staring at her daughter with an unexplainable look.
"i already agreed to watch dani for helaine and michael, and i've been keeping this house clean since way before you were born, i think i could manage keeping it clean for a couple of more months." her mother argued, her tone was soft but something about it told julie to stop arguing.

however she never listened.

"mom come on!" julie shook her head "i don't want to go this year!" she firmly stated. julie would rather die before she would ever step foot in that camp again. she absolutely despised it.
her mother sighed "sweetie, it's your last year! besides what would be a better option? you stay holed up in your room all summer?" her mother questioned, walking away from her daughter and into the kitchen "the decision is final. you're going." julie groaned loudly, stomping her foot on the ground.

julie shook her head, running out the door before her mom could call her back and lecture her for stomping her foot.
she just wanted to spend one birthday home.

the young girl ran down the street toward her sisters house, she found comfort with her older sister. she confided with the older girl about her deepest secrets—even if they were boring.

julie rang her sisters doorbell, waiting patiently with her hands buried in her back pockets.
from inside she could hear dani giggling softly "who's at the door dani?" lainey questioned her young daughter.

when helaine opened the door she immediately smiled at her sister "dani! look its auntie julie!" she held her young daughter on her hip and her stomach swollen, holding her son in there until he was ready to come out.
julie smiled wide at her niece "hi dani!" she cooed, reaching her hand out to tickle her nieces side. dani giggled at her aunts touch.

"come on julie! maria's making cookies." helaine smiled at her younger sister, turning around and placing dani on the floor next to one of maria's sons. her youngest as far as julie can guess.
julie had met maria a few times, a sweet woman who had way too many kids who stressed her out as well as her financial situation.

"dani!" the boy giggled as dani placed one of their building blocks in her mouth.

julie smiled "aww, what a cutie!" she leaned down and sat next to the babies, playing with their blocks along with them.
helaine smiled as maria came in with a plate of warm cookies "he just learned how to say her name last week, now all he says is 'dani! where dani? momma i wanna play with dani!'" maria laughed, setting the cookies on the coffee table "help yourself, julie." she smiled.
