"this-!" josh slammed a newspaper article onto the table in his room, "is ruby lane." dani picked up the article, skimming through the paragraph before looking up at her picture. "she's pretty." she commented quietly before handing it to simon, whose eyes scanned over the picture in shock. "that's the girl who attacked you." simon took in a sharp inhale "holy shit!" he said. he couldn't tear his eyes away from the small clipping as josh further explained her situation, "she sang as she murdered her boyfriend, her friends, then she killed herself," everyone slowly looked up at josh "slashed her wrists."
kate turned the newspaper article around to her "jesus. yeah, why didn't i see this on the news?" she glanced up at josh. josh shook his head "because it happened thirty years ago!" he exclaimed. shock waved over the teens as they all glanced over to one another "1965!" josh hit the desk softly before turning back to his newspaper board.
dani looked up at kate, her mouth dropped in shock "so what?" dani said, turning to the rest of the group "we're being chased by fucking murderous zombies!? i mean how is this bitch still up and walking if she killed herself thirty fucking years ago!?" she pointed down toward the article. she looked down, grimacing at the sight of ruby lane staring back up at her, smiling as if she couldn't have another care in the world.
josh slammed a bunch of newspapers and drawings back onto the table "i don't know! but what i do know is that ruby is one of shadysides killers," he flipped through the articles "just like skull mask!" josh slammed the newspaper in front of dani, who stared blankly at ryan's face. "yeah, ryan." she said. "yeah, ryan torres." josh flipped another news article in the middle of the table "look! 1978! sixteen years ago, 'masked psycho murders kids at'—" josh read from the article.
kate leaned forward, taking the article into her hands "—camp nightwing." she stared down at the paper "yeah my mom's sister was there. that screwed my family up for a long time." kate said, looking back up at her friends. dani nodded, taking the article from her friends hands "yeah same, my aunt and uncle were murdered there, my moms still messed up about it." her face scrunched up as she looked at the picture of a large wooden cabin on the front. the images of her aunt and uncle smiling wide flashed through her mind for a brief moment.
josh shoved another paper onto the table "1950, harry rooker." dani tore her gaze away from the article and turned up at josh "local milkman slashes a bunch of housewives."
another paper.
"1935, humpty dumpty killer."
another paper.
"1922, billy barker."
another.
"1904, grifter guts girls. and on and on." he slammed a final piece of paper onto the table, sighing quietly "it happens in shadyside over and over again. normal people turn into psychos." simon picked up a drawing from under the clutter of old articles.
