Kaylie

There was a knock at my door, and I turned around to see it was Mom on the threshold. What is she doing here? What does she want now?

I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion, staring at her as if she had three heads or something. "Mom? What are you doing here?" I asked her curiously, though I had a hunch as to why she graced me with her presence.

She sighed as she stared at me. "Why can't you try to get along with your sister, Kaylie?" Mom begins, and I internally groan, knowing where this was going. I knew it. I fucking knew it.

I snorted, and turned back around, staring down at my unfinished homework before me. "Pfft, fuck Hailey."

I heard Mom gasp behind me, but I didn't dare turn around, already seeing her disappointed stare from the back of my head. "Kaylie! Don't say that honey, please, she's not just your sister. She's your twin sister. You two shared a home together for nine months." Mom told me, disappointment and sadness shadowed over her features by the time I finally turned around to look at her.

"Mom, please! I don't want to talk about it right now. What part of that don't you understand? Leave me alone, I couldn't give a fuck about Hailey right now." I admitted bluntly, going back to "doing" my homework.

"Kaylie Black, don't speak to your mother that way," Dad said out of nowhere, appearing behind Mom. "Now what is this feud between you and Hailey?"

I gripped the paper in my hand rather too tightly. "I said I don't want to talk about it." I replied through gritted teeth.

"Please, Kaylie, we just want to help you two get over your differences, and-" Mom began, but I cut her off.

"Oh, so now you suddenly give a fuck about me, Sarah?!" I yelled at her, standing up from my chair abruptly and rising to my full height, using her real name since I just couldn't bring myself to call her "mom" at the moment. My hands turned into fists real quick by my sides as I glared at my mother, fuming in rage.

Dad glared at me, but I wasn't in the least bit intimidated since I had his same glare, so I returned it right back at him. "Kaylie! Don't disrespect your mother like that! Apologize to her right this instant or you're grounded!"

I shrugged, and sat back down on my chair, my expression neutral as I stared at him. "Looks like I'm grounded, then."

Dad's stare pierced into me, and in one swift movement, he was right in front of me, glaring down at me. "Give me your devices, Kaylie." He said simply, extending his hand out to me, waiting for me to hand them over.

I craned my neck to look up at him, since he was tall as fuck, and when he said that, I stared wide-eyed at him. He couldn't be serious! I needed those. "What?!" I boomed at him, standing up again abruptly to be face to face with him, but not really though since he was a few inches taller than me.

"You heard me well, Kaylie. Give me your damn devices now!"

"Hayden, please don't scream at her like that-" Mom started saying, but I interrupted her again.

"But I need them!" I argued, refusing to give them to him right away.

"Well, you should've thought about that before you yelled at your mother! Now, give me your things, Kaylie, I'm not playing with you anymore!" He replied back harshly, his tone of voice leaving no room for argument. His glare was pinning me in place, knowing I had no choice at this point.

Through gritted teeth, I hesitantly gave him my phone, laptop, and other electronics I had. "Here." I told him, through gritted teeth once more.

He snatched them away from me, and with a final glare directed my way, he walked out. Mom was trailing behind him, but not before casting me a sad glance my way first.

Now, I feel awful. What have I done? I needed to apologize to her. I know Mom was only trying to help us, but sometimes she became too much, bombarding me with questions as if I were in an interrogation room or something. Plus, I kinda wanted to do things my own way with Hailey, and she wanted us to get over our quarrel fast so we could become a "perfect" family again.
