Arothena had never seen anything like it, and from the expression on Ronan’s face, he hadn’t either. Colours burst from Eloise in continuous waves, enveloping her in a bubble of power both hot and cold, bright and dark. Eloise was hidden from view as a torrent of pure energy fought its way out of her skin, pushing through and destroying everything they came into contact with.
Arothena threw herself to the floor, pulling Ronan down with her. He did the same for Salene. The yenaki holding them were gone - disintegrated by the power emanating from Eloise. Less than dust on the wind. Through some blessing, it didn’t touch her. Or her friends.
When Arothena dared to look up, Eloise was hovering three feet in the air, that strange power still surrounding her, demanding release, freedom. It rippled from her in an endless fight for release and freedom. Her eyes were closed, and her body dangled upright as if held in place, like a puppet, her face frozen in a silent scream. Arothena tried to pull herself forward across the platform, but the second she moved, she was hit by the full force of the energy sprouting from Eloise. It was - it was enough to move worlds. To decimate countries - to shake the Eternals. To stop the War. Or start it.
Arothena looked around. The yenaki were gone. Destroyed - utterly and completely, just from a touch of that terrible power. She doubted that even their atoms remained - yet the waves continued. Eloise continued to rise slowly higher, her scream seeming to enforce the strength of energy bursting from her skin. Arothena cried out, her voice lost in the power, the sheer magnitude of the chasmic nothing that flowed from her. Swallowed up by both the tremendous din and the vacuum of silence that Eloise’s energy generated. She opened her eyes.
Eloise’s scream cut through the waves of energy. Her power returned to her, sucked back in as she fell to the floor - unconscious. Ronan rushed towards her, cradling her head in his hands. He nodded. Alive. She was - alive.
But now, Arothena wasn’t sure whether that was a good thing.
