January was for the most part uneventful, though there were some new developments regarding Tom and Avery's group of friends. The group had begun studying together every once and awhile, Lilith stayed out of it, instead choosing to waste her time on random things, it's not like she wanted to study with a group anyways, groups were a pain. And so January passed giving way to February. It was the 12th of the month and people were getting excited for Tuesday, which was Valentine's day.
Tom had continued with the wrist holding whenever possible, but much to his dismay Lilith had caught on, and it had become a competition. Now, whenever they headed to class it was a race to see who would grab the other's wrist first, and they would be the winner.
"Tom, do you think you'll get any valentines?" Lilith asked Sunday night in the common room.
"Yeah, probably, most people do, or at least they did when I had to go to that stupid muggle school"
"Really, I never really got any, maybe people liked valentines day more where you were,"
"Nah, they just liked me a lot," he smirked, with that Lilith laughed a little.
"I guess they didn't like me very much then,"
"How unfortunate for you, people have always adored me," Tom continued. Lilith started making very strange anger noises.
"Are you having a seizure? If so, please hurry up and die."
"Meanie," Tom, thinking the conversation was over, started reading his book.
Whack
"Oooww" he groaned "LILITH, WHAT IN THE WORLD"
"You're the one who said you wanted me to die, so I decided I wanted you to be hit with a book."
"And you wonder why people don't give you things," Tom said, rubbing his head.
"I've only ever had to hit you with anything. So your point is completely invalid." she paused, "and besides, I don't expect anyone to give me anything, I don't talk to anyone," she looked at Tom who was gesturing to her in a way, had she forgotten something? Oh, right.
"Everyone except from you,"
"Ah there we go, if you had forgotten to mention the cause of my suffering I would've been mad, I deserve credit." he said with a slight chuckle.
"I'm not a pain all the time, I swear," Lilith said, joining him in laughter.
"Nope, you definitely are."
"Rude"
Soon it was time to go to sleep. Lilith returned to her dorm to see Saoirse waiting for her and her dorm-mates asleep. She thought about what Tom had said while getting ready for bed. He was joking. She couldn't be that bad, if she actually talked to people they'd like her, she was sure of it. The only reason she didn't have any friends was because she never talked to people. And Valentine's day? She didn't expect anything, of course not. In fact it would be rude to expect anything, and that was fine, it made sense.
The night gave way to day and people were getting far too excited for tuesday.
Tom wasn't really looking forward to valentine's day, it had always been a pest. Around the age of 9 he had gotten an increasing number of little cards and candies. The candy was good-ish, but the cards were discarded, as they were pointless. "Be my valentine" they would say. How incredibly dull. Maybe the world of wizards would be less boring in expressing their affections.
At breakfast there was a gaggle of girls, and Tom could hear their giggles, see their lips blabbing away from where he and Lilith sat. It was so loud, and he could only imagine how bad it would be tomorrow.
