11:59... 12:00! It was now Tom's birthday, and Lilith was in quite the pickle. She had nothing for his birthday. Originally she was going to draw him something or write another poem, but she procrastinated and now it was his birthday and she still had nothing. This was a problem. She could always think of something later that morning..... No! That's still procrastination. She got her pencil and drew until she was satisfied.

Tom woke up and remembering that it was his birthday, he sighed as he got out of bed wondering what crazy thing Lilith would do. He doubted she'd forgotten the date. Tom went down from his dorm wondering how long he'd have before he heard the thud of Lilith's feet on the stairs.

To his surprise she was already on the couch reading, she looked exhausted though. When she noticed him she gave a smile.
"Oh, good morning," she said "happy birthday!" just as he'd expected, she had remembered.
"Thank you" he said, rather dully.
"I drew you something," she said pointing to a sheet of paper.

It was a picture of himself looking annoyed at Lilith, she was tapping her foot. Tom wondered how this could be considered a gift, it didn't even paint him in a positive light, but oh well.
"Do you like it?" she asked
"It's alright," he said with a nod. Lilith breathed a sigh of relief.
"That's good" she said "I stayed up really late to finish it" now it made sense as to why she looked so exhausted though he didn't realize to what extent till a few minutes later.

They were both sitting on the couch reading their separate books when Tom felt something plop onto his shoulder.

Lilith had fallen asleep. Tom pushed her off promptly only to have her plop onto his shoulder yet again. He pushed her off again, and to his relief she stayed that way this time.

Nothing else of note really happened on Tom's birthday, Lilith slept on and off all day and he got  a little cake from Dumbledore.

Soon Christmas break was over and everyone returned to Hogwarts in high spirits

It was Friday, and Lilith hadn't been feeling very well since she had woken up that morning. She knew that she should've gone to the hospital wing hours ago, but dreaded the feeling of being watched, watched as she would stand up and leave the classroom, and the thought of it made her start fidgeting with the ends of her skirt.

Surprisingly, Tom had been aware of her declining health all day, for she had been quieter than usual, she hadn't woken up as early as she usually did, and looked miserable as she fumbled down the stairs. Tom figured she had contracted some illness and was now worried she could get him sick. But he was very pleased with her silence.

They were now in DADA. Lilith had held on throughout the majority of the day but she wasn't looking good, not at all.

"You look like you're about to vomit" Tom said quietly, her eyes widened slightly and she frowned.
"Is it that obvious?"
"A little," he said. Lilith, disappointed her act hadn't worked better, started fidgeting with her skirt even more, worried other people had noticed. She wanted to whip her head around to make sure nobody was paying attention, but she didn't have the energy. And even more than that she wanted to flop onto the ground and lay down. The ground was dirty, but it was cold, oh how nice it would feel. Maybe she could sleep, close her eyes and sleep, yes sleep it sounded so nice ..... No! Going to sleep in class was not an option, she may be sick but she still had a sense of pride.

Tom watched her in this strange state, she was struggling to stay awake, closing her eyes and jolting her body into consciousness a minute or two later. Unfortunately he realized that he had gotten distracted watching her drift in and out of reality, in order to prevent further distraction he decided to inform the professor of this. He raised his hand.
