Chapter 9

There was a new set of beeps that filled the air soon after Hovel's words faded.

Then the box cracked open once more....and in walked two nameless men in White robes.

Behind them...there were two other people.

But these people, were making noises, and they were wrapped in silver circles that clinked and rattled as they tried to pull their hands and arms apart.

Without any hesitation or speaking, the Men in White shoved the two screaming strangers into the box.

In seconds the Men in White had disappeared back out of the box, leaving the man and woman clawing at the walls, and running around the box, looking for some kind of escape.

"Grand Master?" Nora went to call, but Hovel cut her a cold look.

"BE silent and observe." He commanded....and so she did.

The Boy watched his food running around the box.

There was a large round man, with a hairless head...and thick lips and fingers. And there was also a female, with curly brown hair...and bark brown skin.

The boy's entire body was attuned to their every movement...and to their energy.

He could feel the people rushing all over the box, making noises he didn't understand. Ignoring the naked boy standing in the center of the box.

And for a long moment the boy simply savored in the vibrations of their bodies against his sense.

Until....much faster than the boy should have been able to do it, He sun on his heels and darted across the floor.

With a wordless cry, more inhuman than any beasts the bloody, scarred, and filth-covered boy tackled the large man to the ground; wrapped his hands around the large man's throat and slammed his head into the seamless white ground viciously.

The power that the small boy wielded was undeniable as he slammed the man's head into the ground again, and a fine splatter of bloodshot out onto the white floor.

"Oh my God!" Nora's voice cried from the other side of the clear wall where she stood with Hovel and Jacob watching the gruesome spectacle unfold.

Her voice seemed to be amplified and it echoed as if it were being ripped from her mouth and poured out of walls of the box.

The man that the boy was beating and strangling started screaming at him. The man began beating at the boy's small body, but there was no escape.

The boy shivered in pleasure and pain, as he sized up the energy buzzing in the body beneath him. Hunger stabbed the boy in every inch of his body. The Flame screamed inside of him.

The only sensation that mattered. The only thing he truly understood was that he had to eat.

The Flame needed to eat!

The man beneath him screamed louder....and the woman kneeling in the corner across the room screamed as well. Her words were nothing to him. Or the Flame.

The boy pressed his hands into the large man's throat harder, choking the life from him.....and letting the Flame begin to feed.

The smell of sizzling flesh filled the air....as sharp flashes of white light poured out of the boy's hands and touched the man's body.

Screams turned to terrified wails. The body beneath the boy started to shake....then it began to shrink.

Features melted like warm clay in sunlight, skin turned black, blood ran up and out of the man's lips.

When the boy was done....he left nothing behind but a bloody blackened husk.

With a careless flick of his wrists Brandon lifted the husk from the ground, then unceremoniously dropped it back to the floor ignoring the splattering smack of flesh and bone on the hard floor.

The hunger....remained.

The pain of it....was enough to make the boy claw at his stomach in agony.

But the boy and the Flame knew that there was more to be devoured.

The woman hat had come into the room with the now dead man was sitting in the corner.

Her skin was the color of dirt, her teeth and nails looked odd and her eyes were glowing.

"Is that a Shifter?" Jacobs's voice suddenly echoed inside of the box, just like Nora's voice had before. He was speaking to Hovel who was standing next to him.

Hovels voice happily replied also pouring into the room.

"Yup. She's a sweet little stray I found off in the gutters." He answered Jacob.

"Who is she? And what is the boy? He is not human?" Nora's soft voice questioned next as the boy stalked across the room towards the girl with the glowing eyes.

Hovels cold answer came across the air just as the boy attacked the girl and ripped her out of the corner.

"He's just an unclean abomination. But She's Lunch..." Hovel simply said, before clenching his teeth in a smile and tapping his head with his left finger.

"Trial and Error, Acolyte. All trial and error." He finished and laughed.

The boy noticed these things only in passing as he descended on the girl in question.

She tried to fight him. She was strong....and her thick nails and long teeth cut him, but the boy had soon fed upon her as well..
