Chapter 41

Erin and Glen and Ezekiel spent a few minutes urging Brandon back to bed as Ezekiel helped him up off of the floor.

Cold juices dripped across Ezekiels arms, and hot soup had been dashed across his pants, but Ezekiel ignored these things as he helped them calm Brandon and pull him back into the room.

Brandon was trebling all over. His skin was pale and his flesh was hot to the touch, making Ezekiel instantly aware that he was suffering from his powers. He was burning up in a fever sickness.

Ezekiel wondered if Brandon would slip back into one of his deathlike sleeps that would eventually lead to a fit of screaming and thrashing on the bed. And as Brandon collapsed on the bed and closed his eyes Ezekiel could only hope that his rest was peaceful.

Leaving Brandon on the bed Ezekiel helped his mother and cousin clean up the spilled food and juice...

Minutes after this Glen and Erin drilled Ezekiel for information about what had transpired during the Meeting with Jacob.

Ezekiel outlined all that had transpired in the meeting and once he finished Erin and Glen left him alone to continue to tend to Brandon and clean himself up.

Noticing that the sun was dipping down below the horizon outside Ezekiel took a few moments to light a few candles, bathing the room in warm orange and yellow lights, then he retired to the shower with some fresh clothes from his room.

After the shower Ezekiel dressed in a fresh pair of loose jeans, but because his hair was still damp he decided to leave his shirt and socks in the bathroom as he took a quick moment to begin drying his hair.

Rubbing a towel all over his head he paused for a moment and stepped up to the bathroom doorway to glance out and check on Brandon.

Mostly expecting him to still be resting Ezekiel was surprised to see that Brandon was very much awake. His face was shadowed as he laid in the candle light staring up at the ceiling silently.

His skin was still very pale, the cuts that had once marred his face were completely healed leaving behind small red welts on his left cheek that would soon fade away. His green eyes were hooded and even from where Ezkeiel was standing he could sense Brandons body fighting not to shiver and shake from pain....and exhaustion and...hunger.

"Brandon is there anything I can do? I want to help..." Ezkeiel called out quietly, dropping the towel across his shoulders as he looked across the room.

But instead of speaking Brandon simply turned his head to the side and didn't respond.

Brandon clenched his hands in the sheets so hard that the leather gloves he wore looked like they would burst from the pressure.

He had his face hidden in the pillows and his short hair was frayed from his continuous tossing and turning.

Nearly an hour had passed since Ezkeiel had arrived but Brandon didn't speak. Still his tense body was speaking for him. He was in so much pain.

Stepping further out of the bathroom Ezekiel made a swift decision. He tossed the towel that he was using to dry his hair across the coffee table and went to the bed.

When he got to Brandons side Ezekiel reached over, softly grasped his chin and turned Brandon's face so that he could capture his eyes. They were clouded with things and burdens that Ezekiel wanted to wipe away. And his body was trembling on the bed.
