I grab the cleaning supplies and begin cleaning the tables as Millie turns the sign in the cafe door from "open" to "closed". This past week has been crazy busy in the cafe due to various events happening around Aberystwyth. I don't normally like huge crowds of people, but the endless bustle of bodies and seemingly never ending orders of coffee and cakes seemed perfect for my mind right now. I hadn't spoken to Taron for 2 weeks now and I needed a heavy distraction from the endless thoughts in my mind about him.
As I begin to wipe the tables down, I hear a knock on the shop window. I look up to spot a talk figure that was illuminated by the street lights. I met eyes with a skinny, brunette woman. She waved through the window and then pointed to the door, signalling me to open it for her. I look at her with a confused expression as I drop the cleaning supplies and make my way to the door. What did she want? Surely she could read the sign that the shop was closed.
I open the door and am met with a gorgeous woman. She looks like a supermodel. The complete opposite of myself, who was sporting a flour and chocolate covered apron, a messy bun and a white tshirt that had been stained with various coffee spills throughout the day.
"Sorry, but we are actually closed. Can I help you at all?" I ask, the tiredness seeping though my voice, letting her know that it had been a long day and all I wanted was my bed. "Y/n isnt it?" She simply asks. My face grows more confused. "Yes?" I reply and she nods her head slowly, moving her eyes up and down my body, as if she was scanning me. Her eyes meet mine again before she speaks. "I'm Emily. Taron's girlfriend."
My heart sinks. What is she doing here?! "Oh" I reply. Shit! "I'm sorry to bother you, but is it ok if we talk?" She asks, seemingly sounding apologetic about the situation. I look around the empty cafe and then invite her in, giving her a nervous "sure" as she walks past me.
"Taron doesn't stop talking about you" she chuckles as she pulls out a seat. Her awkward beginning sentence leaves me confused still as to why she is here. "Emily? What are you doing here?" I ask, too tired to play mind games and just wanting her to get on with what she has to say.
"He loves you, you know. More than he ever loved me. You both looked so happy together on the red carpet. I've never seen him smile that big". I look to the ground, ashamed and unable to look at her. Why is she telling me this? Has something happened? I untie my apron and hang it up on the hook before returning to the conversation and taking a seat opposite her. "I know" I say, fiddling with my fingers in my lap.
"I'm so sorry Emily. I didn't know he loved me until only a few weeks ago". I was still unsure of why she was here. Was she just going to keep telling me things I already knew?
"He left me". My eyes grow up user as I try to take in the information I just heard. "What?" I say, needing her to clarify what I had just heard. "3 days ago. I haven't heard from him since. That's why I'm here. Has he spoken to you? I just want to make sure he is ok" she says, causing a slight wobble in her voice as if she was going to cry.
I sit back in my chair and let out a long, audible sigh. "No he hasn't. I haven't spoken to him or heard from him in a few weeks. I'm sorry" I say. I was unsure if I should be apologising for the fact he dumped her; after all I was the one who caused all of this.
We continued our conversation for a little while longer before she decided that it was best for her to go. I told her that I would try to find or call Taron and would contact her to let her know that he was ok, to which she was grateful for.
