AMELIA WAS IN THE KITCHEN WITH HER MOTHER WHEN GLORIA AND MANNY ARRIVED. "Manny brought his favorite game to play with Luke," Gloria tells them. Manny rummages through his bag and finds the game. "It's called empire. You use strategies to expand territories." Amelia snorted. There was no way in hell Luke would play this game.
"Luke is gonna love that," Claire said sarcastically. "He's out back playing." Manny looks through the kitchen window to see Luke jumping on the trampoline with a box on his head. "Do need me to get you something while I'm out shopping?" Gloria asked. "Well, that's such a nice offer but I think we're good. Thanks," Claire answers.
At that moment Alex comes out wearing a full-sleeved blue top," What about this?" she asks. "You didn't even say hi to Gloria and Manny," Claire says. "Hi, Gloria and Manny. Okay Mom, what about this?" the second youngest Dunphy says.
"No, you're wearing a dress," Claire says stubbornly. "Mom, Come on!" Alex says. "What!? Is it gonna kill you to look like a girl for one afternoon?" her mother asks sarcastically. "But it's a wedding for some friend of yours that I've never even heard of," Alex objects. "It's non-negotiable. You borrow a dress from Haley or Amelia," the blonde woman speaks.
"Mom. There is no way she is ever going to borrow my dress," Amelia says. "I don't even want it! Plus, that sends an ugly message. That I'm Amelia or Haley," Alex says, disgusted. Her sister scoffs, "Do you have any idea how many people wish they were me?"
Alex chooses to ignore this comment. "You know mom, instead of forcing me to wear a dress, why don't you worry about getting Luke to wear some pants," Alex says leaving Claire confused. "What!?" she walks to the window and sees Luke jumping on the trampoline wearing only his underwear. "Luke! Pants! Come on!
"Alex, why don't you come shopping with me? Maybe I can find something you like" Gloria asks. "Oo, Can I come too?" Amelia asks.
"Of course. It will be like a girl's day!" Gloria "That's a really nice offer but that's not really Alex's thing," Claire answers for her daughter. "Actually, I'd love to go," Alex says making Amelia choke on her juice.
"See you don't know what my thing is. You have no idea what my thing is," Alex says to her mother. "I know what your thing is. Your thing is to provoke. Just like your sister's thing is to never come out of her room. And your other sister's thing is to do weird stuff to her hair. And your brother's thing... Oh, there's your brother's thing." Claire walks over to the window again. "Luke put em on!"

Alex, Gloria and Amelia were sitting in an outdoor restaurant. "So, I was thinking after lunch, we can go and do a little shopping," Gloria said. "Yep," Amelia said. "I'm not getting a dress," Alex says. " I don't care I'm not your mother," Gloria says. "I know, you're our grandmother," Alex says. "Step-grandmother," Gloria corrects.
"But we can still go shopping right?" Amelia asks. "Of course. Anyways, today, think of me as a girlfriend. Three girls out for an afternoon of fun " The Latin woman said. "What do you usually do with your girlfriends," Alex asks. "Seriously?" Amelia says looking at her sister. "Well, you both can talk to me about anything," Gloria says.
