"Wait, you didn't tell me you have a boyfriend, [NAME]!" Aori shouted at them from across the table as [NAME], Aori and Ray sat there eating their lunch at their usual table.
"AHH, stop saying it so loud! We've been together for a while, it's not like it was private anyway. It just wasn't public that's all." [NAME] admits to Aori and Ray. They look to the left to see him eating his food with his usual solemn expression, listening to one of Tendou's crazy stories. [NAME] smiles upon seeing him at least take part in the conversation, even if it was once.
"But does he treat you well, I mean he looks kinda scary," Ray said with his mouth stuffed with food.
"Yeah, he doesn't look like the type to care for his girlfriend, since he's so busy with volleyball and you're okay with that?" Aori said with a confused look on their face, looking at [NAME] then at Ushiwaka.
"Hey, Toshi is more than you guys see him as, he's really kind, you know?" They both paused on what they were doing, looked at each other, and burst out laughing. Causing the attention of other tables, including, Ushijima's table.
As if on cue, Ushijima walked over to their table, standing behind [NAME], towering over them. Stopping Aori and Ray's laughing as they looked at them, then him.
"[NAME], come to my practice after school so we could get something to eat after if you want to." He looked at them, as they whipped their head round in excitement.
"Sure, I'll see you then." they sent him a warm smiling earning a weak smile from him back, since he wasn't really the type to smile.
All this caused Aori and Ray to look at each other with disbelief, their jaws dropped.
[NAME] spins their head around, looking for the main sports hall to see if the practice has ended.
As they walk towards the entrance, they pull the door open to be met with a volleyball in contact with their face sending them backward.
Everything was spinning. They held their eyes shut, trying to not cry in front of the crowd assembling in front of them.
"Hey, Wakatoshi, did you just spike your girlfriend in the face?" Tendou stares down at them on the floor, looking at them with genuine concern.
Just then, They felt themself being lifted off the ground by broad shoulders. They look at Ushijima, seeing some sort of expression, unable to tell what he is feeling still.
"I'm so sorry, Toshi. I'm okay, we can still go out to eat, right?" They felt their heart shatter as if they ruined something. This was something they both looked forward to doing but they felt as if they messed things up.
Ushijima looked down at their teary face in his arms.
"What matters is if you're okay, we could always go out any other day."
He may look cold-hearted on the outside but [NAME] just knew there was more to him than he lets people see, and he was slowly opening up to them.
