The Nanny

Chapter 9

Jughead leaves and after 30 minutes, Betty and the twins leave for the mall. The twins were so excited and Betty was smiling watching them. In thy car, Smithers and Betty talked and they got really well together. Betty saw that everyone in this house are very nice and friendly, even the staffs, too. That was the most beautiful thing. They reach at the mall and Marcus and Max jump out of the car. Betty takes Smithers number, just in case. They go inside the mall and roam around. They get into few shops. Jughead has already gave his credit card to Betty before he left. Betty and the twins go inside a chocolate shop and buy a few chocolates. The twins wanted to buy more but Betty refused. She convinced them and they go to another shop. There were watches, clothes and many things. Marcus and Max saw two t- shirts with the letter "M".

Marcus: Max, look. It's 'M'. You take one and I'll take one.

Max: We'll be matching! Let's take this!

They take the t-shirts and goes to Betty who was looking through the clothes.

Max: Betty, look. How is it?

B: Wow, boys. These are so cool. You guys will be matching.

Marcus: Yes!

B: Do you guys need anything else?

Marcus: No. we can leave.

B: Okay.

Betty pays for the shirts(with the credit card) and they leave.

Max: I'm hungry!

Marcus: Yeah, me too.

B: Well then let's go to somewhere to eat. I'm starving as well.

Betty says holding her stomach and the twins laugh. They go to a restaurant and have lunch. Then they go to a park and spend the evening there. Then they again go to a restaurant and have some snacks. Betty checks the time and see that it's 6:00 pm so they decide to head home. But when they step outside they couldn't find Smithers. Betty calls him a few times but he doesn't pick up. It was night so it was kind of getting cold. Then Betty calls Jughead but he also doesn't pick up but sends a message saying that he is in a meeting. Betty didn't have anyone else's number so she couldn't figure out what to do. They wait for half an hour but still no sign of Smithers. The kids were feeling cold and Betty starts to get worried. Then she comes with an idea. She knows that she shouldn't do it but she has no choice.

B: Okay, boys. It's getting late and cold and Smithers still hasn't come. So... why don't we go by subway?

Marcus: But dad told us not to.

B: I know but we don't have any other option right now.

Max: Okay, then let's go!

B: Okay.

Then they go home by subway. Betty knows that Jughead is gonna be mad but he has to understand that she didn't have any option. At 9:00, Veronica came home and she was so tired. She literally laid on the couch. Betty saw her and went to her.

B: V, are you okay?

V: Yeah, I'm just so tired.

B: Why don't you take a relaxing bath and then go to sleep?

V: You're right, B. Good night.

B: Good night.

And Veronica leaves. After a while, FP, Archie and Jughead come home. Archie and FP go to their rooms. Jughead gets changed and goes to the kid's room.

J: Hey.

M&M: Hey dad!

J: How was your day?

Marcus: It was great. We had lots of fun. And Marcus and I bought matching t-shirts.

Marcus says showing Jughead the t-shirts.

J: Wow, it's great. What else did you do?

Max: We came home by Subway!

J: What? I told you not to, right?

Marcus: Yes. But we didn't have a choice, dad.

J: And Betty? She didn't say anything?

Marcus: She actually told us but dad, it wasn't her fault.

J: Where is she?

Jughead gets up madly and goes to his office. He calls Betty in his office.

Jughead's pov:

I told Betty not to ride in Subway but she still did. I hope she has a good explanation to do. I was leaning my back on my table when someone knocks on the door.

J: Come in.

Then Betty comes in. she was still in her same clothes as morning.

B: You called me?

J: Yeah. I told you not to let them ride in Subway, didn't I?

I ask being mad.

B: Yes, you did but I had no choice.

J: What do you mean you had no choice?

B: when we were about to come home, we couldn't find Smithers. I called a dozen times but he didn't pick up. It was late and the kids were feeling cold and I didn't know what else to do. I'm sorry.

J: You could've called me or anyone else but you had to do that! I told you not to but you still did. I thought I could trust with my kids but no. and why did I even thought that? You just a nanny and you need money, that's why you took the job, didn't you? You never cared about my kids. You're just doing this for yourself. Just for money!

I shout and see tears coming down her cheeks. Shit! I think I just said too much.

B: You done?

I stay silent.

B: Now, listen to me. I called you but you didn't pick up instead you told me that you were busy. I didn't have anyone else's number so I didn't know what else to do. And if I not care about your kids then I could've just stayed there and wait for Smithers. But they were cold and could've fell sick so I did what was best for them. And I didn't take the job just for money. I thought I found a second family. You all were so kind to me and I thought you are a nice person but I was wrong. You know what? I QUIT!

I feel so guilty for what I said. I didn't want any of those. She was about to leave.

J: Wait, I'm sorry. I didn't know the whole situation.

She turned around.

B: That's right. You didn't know the whole situation but you still said those horrible things to me.

She was leaving. I have to stop her. I can't just let her go for a mistake I made. But she will not listen to me. And... I think it's time.

J: Betty, wait. Betty.

Then I grabbed her wrist and turned her around. She was so close to my face and we were looking at each other's eyes. And the next thing I knew was my lips were on hers. She didn't pull back. She kissed me back!
