Chapter 1-
"Tris, lets go!" I hear Caleb yell from the kitchen. I jump out of bed and quickly get dressed in a short teal dress, a black leather jacket, and plain white converse. I run downstairs and grab breakfast and I'm out the door. Today is my first day at Divergent High, since I just moved.
I jump into my pearly white Mustang convertible and drive to school. Once I get there, I grab my book bag and walk in the door. I walk up to the secretary's desk in the office and she takes notice of me right away.
"Tris Prior?" She asks.
"Yes," I reply. She hands me my schedule with my locker number and combination. My schedule is:
Tris Prior 11th Grade 1st Semester
Spanish Ms. Palmer
History Mr. Kang
Physical Education Mrs. Trombley
Language Arts Mrs. Stroben
Lunch
Math Mr. Barnes
Science Mrs. Block
Art Mr. Johnson
Study Hall Mr. Malden"Thank you," I say and turn around around and walk out of the office. I find my locker and open it and put my book bag away. I grab my Spanish supplies and head to class.
When I get there, there is only about twenty people in the class. I'm already late from registration which makes it ten times more embarrassing when I walk in. I can feel everyone staring at me when I arrive and I feel heat rush to my face.
"You must be our new student, Tris," Ms. Matthews says. "Take a seat." I obey her command and take a seat in the back of the class near a girl with short, dark hair. I put my stuff down and push my hand through my hair.
"Hey, I'm Christina," the girl sitting next to me exclaims in a relaxed tone.
"Hi, I'm Tris," I reply, smiling bak at her."So, why did you move here?"
"Me and my brother Caleb, who is a grade above me, moved her to Chicago after our parents died to start fresh in a new city."
"Nice. Oh, and this is Will, Marlene, Uriah, and Al."
"Hi," I say, waving to them. They wave back. I spend the rest of the class talking and getting to know them. The rest of my classes go by fast until it's time for lunch.
At lunch, I grab money from my bag and get in line and grab a piece of pizza, an apple, and a water. As I walk to the table that Christina is sitting at, a group of people in my grade approach me.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't Miss Popular. Look, you've only been here three hours, we all know that there is something up about you. So lets just say, get out of our way! And try some pizza, it's really good."
As soon as he said that, he takes his pizza and flips it onto my face. I gasp as him and his group start to laugh uncontrollably. I feel the tears start to stream down my face as I slam my plate onto a nearby table and run to the closest bathroom.
I wipe my face off and go back to my locker. I take out my phone and I am just about to text Caleb as Christina comes around the corner and comes up and hugs me and asks if I'm okay. I am about to cry, but I don't, and we head back to the cafeteria together. So far my first day was not going as I had planned.
