"I just have to get through the rest of this day and then I'm off for the weekend." I reassure myself as I open the door on the drivers side of my car. I pull out of the driveway and drive through the city.
My hair whips in the wind as I turn into the school parking lot. I lock up my car, grab my bag, and head inside. Christina almost immediately catches up with me.
"Hey," she says as she approaches me. I notice Will and Al trailing slowly behind her.
"Hey," I reply back. "Why are you so cheery this morning?"
"I, um. I'll tell you later. Don't worry, I won't forget."
"Okay."
"Anyways, where were you last night? Weren't you supposed to come to the football game?"
"Crap", I think. "Sorry I forgot about it last night. I was sidetracked."
"Oh, okay. As long as you're not lying." She says as she squints her eye at me. "Oh, and where did you go yesterday after school? You just, left."
"Oh nothing, it's fine. I just wasn't feeling well."
The school bell rings.
"I'll catch up with you later, Tris."
"Okay. See you in class." I say as I turn down the hallway where my locker is located. I open up my locker and stuff my bag inside and grab my Spanish materials and walk to class.
In Spanish, I sit by Christina, Will, Al, and Uriah. But my gaze keeps wandering to the other table where Four is sitting. Something about the way he was talking to me yesterday, just, I dunno.
"Who are you starring at?" Christina says as she catches my gaze on the other table. "Oh, your boyfriend?"
"No! He's not my boyfriend!" The teacher turns around and faces me followed by the rest of the class.
"What was that?" Ms. Palmer asks as she tucks a piece of her golden blonde hair behind her ear.
"Oh, I was just talking about, uh, my brother." I say as I stutter on my words. "Christina just though that we had something going on, but we are actually siblings."
"Oh, okay. Next time try not to raise your voice as loud if you could."
"Okay, I won't, I promise." It's hard to ever dislike Ms. Palmer because she is so sweet and never yells and is always nice. She turns back to the board and continues with the lesson. I don't breathe until everyone else is looking away. "Whew." I whisper to myself.
Most of my classes go by in a blur until I get to lunch. I eat my pre-packed lunch in silence, still embarrassed about the incident in Spanish.
A few classes later comes science, which I don't know if I should dread it, or wait for it in apprehension. But it's too late to decide until my mind chooses for me. Scared. And I know why. I'm nervous-wait- terrified for science. I really don't want to embarrass myself in front of him.
As I walk into science, I notice that the board at the front says: Sit by your lab partner.
I timidly make my way to the same table I sat at last time and took a seat right next to Four.
As we worked on our assignment throughout the class, he occasionally stopped to ask me a question or two which made my heart skip a beat every time.
After we finished, it was almost time to leave so I started packing up my supplies.
"So, are you doing anything tonight?"
"Um, no," I replied.
"Want to like, go to a movie or something?"
"Sure!" I say a little too excitedly.
"Okay. I'll pick you up around, hmm, let's say five?"
"That works. See you then I guess."
"See ya."I dash down to my locker and hurry to Christina's locker to break the news to her.
"No way!" She exclaims. "That would make you the only girl that has every gone on a 'date' with him!"
"I know. He's picking me up at five and we are going to see a movie."
"I suppose we should get you home so you can get ready."
"Can't I just go in this?"
"Not your clothes. I meant what you're going to talk about and that kind of stuff."
"But I'm not even sure that this is a date. Maybe he was just being kind because I'm the new girl."
"Date or not you've got to be prepared for anything." Christina says as she grabs my hand and rushes me through the building and into the parking lot where we go our separate ways to our cars.
When I finally get home I grab a snack and head to my room. I decide to change my outfit so I change into a black skater shirt with a t-shirt that I grabbed out of my closet.
Then I take out my straightener and proceed to run the iron through my hair, flattening it.
After I put my flat iron away, I decided to touch up my makeup by reapplying mascara, eyeliner, and a basic eyeshadow color.
By 4:30 I'm bouncing on my toes in anticipation. I quickly go over in my head things to do and not to do, just to keep myself from looking like a fool. I look in the mirror once more to make sure my makeup wasn't smudged and my clothes weren't wrinkled.
A few minutes before five, Four's car pulls into my driveway. I wipe the nervous sweat of my hands off on my skirt and look in the mirror once more. A knock echoes on the door and I walk across the kitchen to answer it.
"Are you ready to go?" He asks.
"Ready as I'll ever be," I reply before closing the door behind me.
