Ugh. Third new school, in what, junior year? I accidentally blew up the first and got kicked out of the second for 'insulting and threatening a teacher'.

Hopefully Goode High School in New York will be different. Hopefully.

I climbed onto the bus. January was not the best time to start school. My viola case bumped into many knees on my way to an empty seat and I was on the receiving end of many curious glares. I slid into the empty seat and watched the view of tall buildings out the window.
A couple stops later, the only empty seats on the packed bus were the bench next to mine and the spot next to me. Three people got on at the last stop before school, and I moved my stuffed backpack by my already crowded feet. They made their way to the seats near me, and one of them slid next to me. She had tan skin, choppy brown hair braided over one shoulder with a bright blue feather, and kaleidoscope eyes. The girl smiled me, and I gave a shy one of my own. The other two people had claimed the bench next to me and the girl. They seemed to be a couple. The guy had windswept black hair, eyes as green as the sea, and a very muscular build. I could see the girls on the bus all drooling over him from where I was sitting. The girl he was with had curly blonde hair and stormy gray eyes, giving off a very feisty vibe. I noticed some of the guys on the bus started whistling at her. The boy cast a fierce glare to all the whistlers, and they stopped.

"You're new, right?"

I turned my attention back on the girl next to me. "Yep." I nodded.

"I'm Piper. Where'd you transfer from?" She smiled, offering a hand.

"I'm Elizabeth, but I like to be called Elise. I...transferred here from Baraboo, Wisconsin." I shook her hand.

Piper raised an eyebrow, noticing my hesitation on the word 'transferred'. "It's a strange time to transfer, isn't it? Right in the middle of January."

Something about her voice made want to tell her everything, from the time when I found out my nice dad was actually my stepdad to what just happened at my old school. It reminded me a little of my seventh grade school in Brooklyn, where there was a girl there who, with her words, could make people do embarrassing stuff. She made me kiss the nastiest boy in my class, get detention for starting a spitball fight, and almost made me break my own viola. I think her name was Drew.

"Yep. Strange times describe my life." I agreed, giving a hint of truth. Piper furrowed her brow, thinking. She glanced at the couple next to us. The girl with the grey eyes was staring at me with a calculating glare. The boy was staring out the window, with a kind of sad slump to his shoulders. The bus hit the roundabout to my new school, and the bustling high school students got off the bus and into their busy school schedules.

"You get to choose your electives: Shop, Art, Music, Health, Home Ed, Spanish, French, and Ancient Culture, which just started this year. And what math were you in at your old school?" The head counselor was a very fast talking woman.

"Trig. And can I have Music and Ancient Culture as my electives?" I asked, my way of talking sounding very slow to my ears compared to hers.

"Yes, and Trig is the highest math level here at Goode. Smart person, aren't ya?" She smiled a cold smile. I shivered.

"Now, off to English, go, go. Mr. Blofis teaches that, room 104."

I hurried off and easily found the English classroom. Mr. Blofis seemed like an easygoing guy, and they were in the middle of reading Romeo and Juliet. I had read half of it five schools ago.
After English was Trig, and then lunch. Lunch was chaotic, as in most high schools. (Trust me, I've been in many.) I grabbed the slop of the day, and found my bus partner sitting at a table with the couple that was near us. I slid in the seat next to her.
