I always feel like somebody's watching me... and there is, because of you! It's ironic in a way — I'm always watching everyone else, but there's also someone watching me.

I have a question for you — how are you doing this? How are you able to converse with me?

I'm a god — well, one of two types anyway, and there's something interesting about us — our psychic signatures can't be detected by mortals. Which means that it should be impossible for any mortal being to establish psychic contact with a god, including through telepathy.

Hm? What kind of god am I? Why, the insane, psychopathic kind, of course. Oh wait, that's every god...

Well, there's two kinds of gods, a guardian deity and a creation deity. A guardian deity's job is to monitor everything that happens in a certain section of the universe. They monitor natural disasters, any incoming galactic threats and in very rare cases, they may elect to step in themselves.

Additionally, any form of intelligent life that dies in their section of the universe is judged by them in the afterlife, and their reward — or punishment, is dictated and administered by them.

It's what I am. I'm a guardian deity and I monitor the Milky Way. Yes, the entire galaxy. It's not actually that bad, since most of the planets don't have any life on them at all, and even on the ones that do, not many of them have intelligent life.

Earth's actually one of the few that do, so I mostly focus my attention here. There are a couple of others though — for instance, there was once a planet full of powerful psychics who were intergalactic conquerors. At one point, they even set their sights on Earth.

They had a very interesting culture — pretty much the exact opposite of humans. A very cold and intellectually based society, there wasn't much love in it — I believe they raised their young in incubators.

They took over many planets as well, mostly due to their immense psychic powers. The way they derive power with PSI differs significantly from humans, since they derive power from intelligence, rather than emotions like humans do. It's a far more limiting method, though much more consistent. The kind of society a god would love.

Well, too bad I blew their planet up in the early 1900's and killed them all. And then tortured them all for many years, because of all the evil things they'd done.

Because, oh yes, anyone who dies in the Milky Way is judged by none other than me. And I get to choose and enact their reward... or punishment. How fun. The afterlife is weird, but that's a story for another day.

As for creation deities... they have a different role. They monitor one concept throughout the entire universe. For example, Pluvar, the god who sent me that letter some time ago, is the God of Weather and they monitor meteorological patterns across the universe. Each of them also has their own unique power which lets them do their job — Pluvar has the power to manipulate weather.

But the reason they're creation deities, is because they are the ones who create new deities, of the creation and guardian kind. Why only them? Well... that's because of the immense power gap.

Creation deities are much more powerful than guardian deities. It's insane. Literally, even after all my life and work to become more powerful, I'm one of the most powerful guardian deities in existence, and I'm still at least 1000 times weaker the weakest creation deities. Either way, making new gods requires ludicrous amounts of strength and energy, which is something guardian deities are kinda lacking in.

There's a strange hierarchy we have, where the amount of respect you have is directly proportional to how badly you can kick someone's ass. In simpler terms, the more powerful you are, the more respected you'll be. But since creation deities are naturally more powerful than guardian deities... well, they garner more respect by default. Which sucks since... they just happened to be born lucky and powerful. Well, what can you do?
