I found myself back at the platform looking for my friends as a had already said goodbye to my mother. I couldn't see anyone, so I decided I would find them on the train, I halted my bag over my shoulder and entered the doors, I went to the compartment we usually go to, and by my luck, Lara was already there.
"Hey Girly"
"Hey!" I sat down next to her while I put my bags up. "How was New York?"
"It was educational," I say with a laugh,
She gave me a strange look
"Never mind I'll tell you later." "Did you enjoy your holiday, oh did you owl anyone back at school?"
"No, I don't have one, but I think I will have to get one, I don't suppose your family has a telephone huh?"
"A what?" she burst out laughing and I soon joined, we were getting looks from people walking by, they must have thought we were mad. The laughter was interrupted by an all-too-familiar Scottish accent.
"Hey, girls do you mind if we join you, seems like a fun compartment" Oliver, Terrance, and Percy were at our compartment door.
"Sure, we were just talking about our holidays. did you get up too much then?"
They then started to go on about their holidays, Oliver had spent his in sky, Percy went home with his brothers he had 6 siblings in total, and Terrance spent his in London but went to Cornwall a few times.
Time went on and we began having our own mini conversions, I was talking to Percy he was sitting across from me, he was asking about New York, and that, was when Lara shouted "WHEN IS THE TOLLY LADY COMING! I'M STARVING"
"Oh yeah boys, heads up Lara thinks with her stomach," I said, and we all started laughing.
"You know I wouldn't mind a cauldron cake," said Terrance
"Oh no my friend pumpkin pasty all the way!" I spoke
Great now I was hungry.
"Hey, want to go see if we can find it?" Oliver had asked me gaining everyone's looks.
"yeah!" he was the closest to the doors to he got up first and as he did a figure showed up.
Marcus
'What does he want' I heard someone mumble as Oliver opened the door.
"Can I help?" he said sharply and dryly.
"Nothing from you wood" he spat back giving everyone in the room a look of disgust but as his eyes landed on me his face softened
"Artemis, can I see you out here," he asks
Before I even got to say anything, Oliver had spoken
"She can't we were going to find the trolly"
"What can't walk there yourself, does the little Gryffindor need someone to hold his hand"
I could see Oliver's hands becoming whiter because of the grip he had on them. So, I stepped in.
"Is it important, can it wait till we get to Hogwarts?"
"No, I can't, please?"
I turn to face Oliver,
"Hey, is it okay if I meet you back here?"
"Yeah of course art" he said with a kind smile.
I pulled a face "art?"
He just corked his eyebrow and smiled while leaving.
Once I looked back at Marcus and motioned his head to let me know to follow him.
"I'll be right back guys"
He took me into an empty compartment.
I stood there with my back straight and arms crossed.
"So?"
He stood the hand scratching the back of his neck.
"yeah, look about Christmas-"
"I am not getting into this again Marc, oh sorry MARCUS right," I said the last part out of spite.
"I'm sorry Okay!. . . you were right I didn't even check up on you and I shouldn't have let the girl speak to you like that, I just you were hanging around with them. I – we were taught not to Artemis"
"Well, maybe they were wrong to do that. Marc muggle-borns are just witches and wizards too, just like us, why can't you see that."
God, it was like talking to a brick wall.
"I just I can't, I can't be friends with them."
"I never asked you to, merlin get over yourself."
There was an awkward silence.
"Well, if that's all I'm going back to my friends"
I walked back to my compartment to find Oliver back, once I opened the door everyone looked up at me.
"Is everything all right?" Terrance asked me. I simply just nodded and sat on my seat. Not without Lara sending me a look
I just sat listening to everyone else. When I felt a tap on my arm.
"Hey, pumpkin pasty right?" Oliver said quietly and handed me one.
"Yeah, thanks"
The rest of the train ride was mundane we just shared stories and joked around. I stared out the window at the landscape. the hills of Scotland's countryside were something else, it felt like we were truly going to another world instead of Hogwarts. once we got back to the school we were all tired and decided to go to the common room after saying bye to the boys. just like the scenery from the compartment windows the Hufflepuff common room was also something special. It was a dome shape with round windows which when daylight allows the light to bounce off the bee-yellow colored walls, mixed with the smell of the amazing foods from the kitchen drifting in and the sweet smells of the variety of plants all around the room created a true sense of calm and peace.
A true slice of paradise.
Our dorms were simple, there were tunnel-like halls leading to them. Once in them, the colour was still yellow but more muted with wooden beds and a chest of draws. they were 4 to a dorm with their own bathroom per dorm. the bed was four post beds with patchwork quilts which gave it a homely feeling. in our dorm, we decorated with personal effects. I had pictures of my home and family as well as my sketchpads and paints. Anjia had a Brazilian flag and a poster of a football team called manchester united which was the football team she liked. Nitka had some photos of her family home in Poland, she had moved here when she was eight. she had a lot of photos as her family was huge, and talking about them always put a smile on her face. Lara had posters of muggle popstars and on her chest of draws had lots of makeup and other types of beauty products. she had gone into detail one day about the importance of makeup and then once she noticed me looking at a bottle of oil she had she explained that it was for her hair that her grandmother taught her to do her to keep her hair healthy. and that is what our dorm looked very colorful and different but it was ours.
