It was supposed to be a fun summer for you and your parents to celebrate being settled in Japan from the Philippines. A normal summer outing in a yacht borrowed from your mother's rich 2nd cousin. You never thought that you would just cover your ears, sitting in a corner while your parents fought on the white boat.
"YOU WHORE! I WORK SO HARD TO PROVIDE YOUR NEEDS AND THIS IS WHAT I GET???" Your father's voice banged, luckily no one other than the 3 of you can hear it.
"Can you please stop??? I told you it wasn't like that! We're supposed to be enjoying our time here!" Your mom sounded annoyed, her beach day ruined.
"Enjoy my time? FUCKING HELL (Mom name)! I JUST SAW A SEX TAPE OF YOU AND MY BROTHER! HOW DO YOU WANT ME TO ACT? DO YOU WANT A "Oh~ Was it a good fuck?" OR A CONGRATULATIONS?"
This has been the sixth time your mom has been caught cheating. Your dad forgave her again and again but of course, they still argued and screamed at each other.
You cried you wish for them to stop, you prayed 'God, if you're hearing me please stop my mom and dad from fighting...' Standing up and uncovering your ears, you decided to walk towards the railings of the boat. Your steps are wobbly and slow, not just because you're 4 but because the waves are getting more violent. Looking to the water you saw something moving.
"Fishy... Big fishy..."
You reached out, thinking that it will come to you flying happily like what happened in your teacher's stories. Getting confused because it won't fly up, you reached further and further and further until you felt your body falling.
"Fishy!" You shouted, proud that you're getting closer.
The last thing you heard was your dad punching your mom to the edge of the boat and your mom screaming your name in shock.
"(Y/N) !"
'Mom is hurt again?' you tried to call out for her but it got dark and you can't hear anything, everything is cold and it felt calm. You didn't breathe in instinct and looked at your side where the big fish swam away.
The next days are blurry and from what you remembered. Your mom just cried and cried to the point where she was pushing you around and stopped making you your favorite breakfast anymore.
What's weird is, you can't hear anything and anyone. You understood it after 3 days. You've gone deaf.
Months passed by, you were with your dad, he also explained that your mom wouldn't be with you for now because she's busy. You know that it's a lie, you saw divorce papers on the kitchen counter and you were familiar with it because of a movie you watched.
You held your dad's hand and walked in the hallways of a building. Your dad will be getting you, classes, for sign language and for reading lips. It confused you how he afforded it since he's probably broke from your operation last month.
He gently squeezed your small hand making you look up. His mouth moved and all you could do is say "What?" He stiffed up and looked down at you sadly.
