Kya could not take her eyes off of the creature in front of her. It was obviously not alive. She couldn't see any flicker of a spirit within the creature but that didn't make the carcass any less amazing in her eyes. It was scaled, like a lizard-hound, but that was really where the comparison end. The creature was as tall as the buildings she saw back in Republic city. She desperately wished the creature was still alive so that she could ride it while it ran. 'Ran?' She tilted her head to the side. 'Maybe it jumped?' It had giant hind legs, shaped almost like those on a Rabaroo, so she bet it could jump pretty high. She wondered if there were more of these animals outside. She turned her head back to the boy in the chair and he was just watching her with slightly squinted eyes.
"What is this animal?" She gestured towards the creature. "It's so cool!"
The boy just frowned at her. 'Ugh. He must only speak that language that Dr. Fate spoke earlier.' She really wished that Master Purysho would've warned her about the language barrier she was going to experience but figured that it must not have been that important. He really didn't like to reveal anything to her about what her life in man's world would be like. She wasn't sure if it was because he didn't quite know himself, or if he thought that it was unsafe to tell her. She mentally shrugged. Kya had always been a quick learner and she would do her best to learn these new people's words. It only seemed fair since she was the guest and all.
Her attention was drawn back to the wall behind the boy in her train of thought. She had never seen anything like it. Korra had told her about the moving pictures that her friend Bolin made back in Republic City, but she had never seen one before. She didn't know they could be this life-like. The pictures were colorful and clear, with sound almost coming out of the wall in sync with the pictures. She walked up towards the screen and reached her hand out, almost touching it, before stopping herself and turning back to the boy.
"What is this?" She asked.
Tim looked at the young girl in front of him. Her eyes were almost glistening in wonder. Now that she was closer, Tim took his time to observe her appearance. She was dressed in a simple green top, that wrapped around her chest and was tucked into a simple pair of brown pants. Her clothing looked extremely simple, like they were hand-made. Her hair was in two loose braids that were tied off with cloth just below her shoulders. She was looking at the monitor like she had never seen a screen before. That gave Tim pause. Almost every kid now a days spent their free time playing on tablets or watching tv. What kind of kid hasn't seen a computer before.
"Uh, this is a computer," Tim said gesturing at the screen. 'This is so stupid she doesn't understand a word your saying' he thought. The girl just smiled and nodded looking back at the screen. Tim turned his chair and started to close some of the more gruesome windows that were popped up and opened a web browser. The girl's eyes widened. The corner of Tim's mouth twitched. He quickly went to Youtube and pulled up a video of cartoons.
"Here watch this" Tim said. He pressed play. The girl stared at the screen in awe. She turned to Tim and started to climb on top of his lap. He backed up in the chair trying to give the kid as much room as possible. She stood up on the open space of the chair between his legs and pressed her left cheek to the screen, trying to figure out how the screen worked. Tim was praying that Dick would be arrive at the cave soon. Dick was always so good with kids. Tim on the other hand was barely good with people his own age.
"Uh," Tim said, tapping the girls shoulder. She quickly turned around to face him and then climbed down from the chair. Tim turned his chair to face her as she stood back on the ground. "What's your name?"
Kya tilted her head. She could tell by the way the words were inflected that the boy was trying to ask her a question. "What?" she asked.
Tim sighed. "Your name?" 'This isn't going to work' he thought. Tim gestured to his chest "I'm Tim." He said. The girl furrowed her eyebrows. He tapped his chest again "Tim."
