Chapter Ten: (SSDD) Same Shit Different Day
Dennis and Cassidy haven't spoken since Wednesday when Dennis gave Cassie his jacket before leaving. Once again Cass finds himself full of trepidation while standing outside of Dennis' house just by the front door. He knows that Finn said everything will be fine and to just pretend like nothing happened, but Cassie doesn't want to do that. Cassie wants to tell Dennis that he feels the same and it's okay if he wants to take things slow because he'd wait forever for him if he had too, which is why he wore the jacket Dennis gave back to him -that is still a little big on him-. "Are you coming in, Cassie?" Kurt asks while walking passed him. Cassidy anxiously follows him into the house. "Hey guys. I'm glad you came." Finn says while pausing his game and standing up from the living room couch. "Um..." "Oh Cassidy. Dennis is in his room. It's just a left at the top of the stairs." Finn interrupts Cass with a knowing look. He and Kurt then sit on the couch and put the game on two player as Cassie reluctantly begins to make his way up the staircase. Once Cass gets to the top of the stairs, he notices a door directly to his left. He turns to it before putting his ear to the door only to be met with silence. Cassidy then opens the door and takes a small step into the room where Dennis is laying on his side facing the wall on his queen sized bed. Cassie smiles to himself while looking over Dennis sleeping in a fetal-like position. "Dennis." Cass says quietly while walking closer to Dennis, causing him to stir in his sleep and turn to face Cassie before waking up. Dennis quickly sits up with blushed cheeks and wide eyes. "What? Is this like a thing now?" Dennis questions apprehensively. "What?" Cass asks as his smile quickly fades as he doesn't understand what Dennis said. Dennis rolls his eyes. "What are you doing here Cass?" Dennis asks in a low tone of voice while standing up revealing himself in just a pair of red boxers before pulling on his jeans. "I just, well. I..." Cass begins to say before pausing as he contemplates whether to listen to Finn's advice or just tell Dennis the truth. Finn does know Dennis better than anyone, so maybe it's important to heed his advice, even if that means Cass will have to go back to playing cat and mouse with Dennis again. "What?" Dennis asks while turning to Cassidy with a cold, expectant look, blatantly still upset about the other night. "I just came to see you. I mean to see if you wanted to um, hangout. I don't know if you have any plans, but I'd like it if we could spend some time together Dennis." Cassie replies hoping Dennis won't reject him. Dennis pouts his lips while evaluating the situation at hand. Meanwhile, failing to notice that Cass is wearing the jacket due to delirium from sleep deprivation. The last time he saw Cass, he told him he had feelings for him. Cass pretended not to understand him -and even if he didn't get it before, he definitely got it when Dennis gave him his jacket back-. Now he shows up after not speaking to Dennis in the last four days asking to spend time together. Dennis wonders if this is Cass' way of telling him he feels guilty and still wants to be friends, but if that's the case then maybe it's for the best that Dennis makes himself clear. He doesn't want to be friends with Cass anymore. In fact he doesn't want to be in his life anymore because Dennis was doing just fine before Cass came back and made him realize how much his life sucks and how lonely he really is without him. Dennis decides in this moment to tell Cassie to go away. To be cold and cruel, so he'll just leave him alone, and stop making him feel like they have a chance together -as if everything in the world would be better if only they were together-. Dennis takes a deep breath while preparing to break the momentary silence and do what he thinks he has to do. "Do you have plans, Dennis?" Cassidy asks timidly while taking a step toward Dennis earning his attention. Dennis sighs while looking deeply into Cass' desperate eyes, suddenly finding the very thought of denying this man anything he asks for to be unbearable. "I don't have plans." Dennis replies quickly. "Good. Then can I stay with you?" Cassie asks. "Uh, what do ya mean?" Dennis asks, visibly quite tired. "Well I could stay here with you while you sleep. Then when you wake up I was thinking we could..." "Uh, wait. Hold on a minute Cass. Wouldn't it be a little weird if you just stayed here while I slept?" Dennis asks reluctantly as he is unsure if he miscomprehended what Cass was saying. "Oh no. It wouldn't be weird." Cassie says with rosy cheeks before pausing, causing Dennis' cheeks to blush as he assumed that he misjudged what Cass meant. "I'll sleep with you. You know, in-in the bed. Not...anywhere else." Cass finishes with a slight smile. "Right-uh sure. That's not weird." Dennis says sarcastically. Cassidy smiles at him. "It's not. It's not weird." Cassie says in agreement -as if he didn't understand that Dennis was being sarcastic- before placing his hands onto Dennis' shoulders and forcing him to sit down, then sitting next to him where their shoulders and legs are touching. Cassie lets out a sharp breath suddenly feeling aroused by their proximity. Plus they're on Dennis' bed about to sleep together. Dennis looks at Cass with wide eyes and reddened cheeks, surprised as well as confused by Cass' demeanor. Cassidy smiles at Dennis trying not to seem nervous or noticeably turned on. "So what's your preference? Do you prefer the right side of the bed or the left?" Cassie asks. Dennis pouts his lips at him while raising his brow. "Wait. You're serious? We're actually doing this?" "Yes." "I just thought this was one of your jokes that aren't funny, which tends to be your only kind of joke." Dennis says back apprehensively wondering why Cass is making him do this. "Ouch. Jeez. Why? You're so mean." Cass replies with a giggle, sure that Dennis is flirting with him, though if he is, then he's doing it unwittingly. "Fine. I'll pick a side. I'll sleep next to the wall." Dennis says awkwardly, visibly uncomfortable. Cassie smiles at him. "Okay." Cass says. A few minutes go by in silence as Cassidy continues staring at Dennis with a giddy smile while Dennis stares back with an uncomfortable expression, glancing away every few seconds. "Well. Okay then. Should we...just..." Dennis says timidly before trailing off. "Yes. We should." Cassie says with a smile before placing a hand onto Dennis' knee, excited to sleep with Dennis. "Okay." Dennis says with a nervous smile while taking Cassidy's hand away from his knee before reluctantly laying down on his side facing the wall. They both let out a sharp breath as Cass lies down beside him facing his back. Dennis stares intently at the wall in front of him as he can feel Cassie's eyes on his back. Cass notices that Dennis is trembling slightly and places a warm, tentative hand gently onto his lower back causing Dennis to take in a sharp breath. "Cass..." "Dennis." They say simultaneously. Dennis then turns to face Cassidy. They stare at one another intensely as the same thought crosses their minds. "Dennis I..." Cass whispers before Dennis interrupts him. "Don't. Please Cassie. Just...don't say anything." Dennis whispers, not wanting Cass to tell him what he believes to be the truth anymore. He doesn't want Cass to say that he doesn't love him or to apologize for not feeling the same. "I just wanted to say that..." Cassidy begins to say just above a whisper before stopping mid-sentence as there is a rough knock at the door. They both sit up quickly. "You guys decent?" Finn asks from outside the door. Dennis rolls his eyes. "What is it Finnie?" Dennis questions. Finn then walks into the room and looks between the two of them with a curious expression. "Well the pizza just got here and Scarlett wanted me to come get you, but I can see now that it's probably not pizza that you guys are hungry for, so..." "Finn!" Dennis shouts. Finn giggles while taking a step back. "What?" He says with an innocent look. Dennis glares at him from across the room. "Are you all having a threesome up there or are you going to join your guests?" Kurt shouts from the bottom of the stairs. Finn blushes as his mouth falls open momentarily. A tension filled silence fills the room before Finn clears his throat. "Well I'll see you two downstairs then." Finn says quietly without making eye contact with either of them before leaving quickly. Cassidy stares at the door for a moment while wondering about how uncomfortable Finn looked, even though Kurt was obviously just kidding.
