Chapter Eleven: Only in dreams
"Your hair is so soft, Dennis." Cassidy whispers into Dennis' ear as he carefully runs his fingers through his peppermint scented hair. Cass does this while moving closer to him in the bathroom of their old middle school; where Dennis once had a panic attack which Cass mistook for a head injury. An adult Dennis leans into Cassidy's gentle touch as the feel of his warm breath against his skin gives him chills. Cass pulls away with a slight smile just before Dennis turns his face to look at him. He smiles back at the blue eyed man beside him. Sitting so close, yet not close enough according to either of them. Dennis lets out a loud sigh while looking deeply into Cassidy's eyes before laying a hand against his chest where he can just barely feel his smooth skin beneath the basically translucent fabric of his button up shirt. He slowly moves his hand up to his collar with an unwavering gaze, and clenches it tightly before pulling him closer.
Cassidy suddenly wakes up as he hears an abrupt and loud thudding noise coming from an unknown location. He opens his eyes quickly before sitting up and remembering that he's in Dennis' bed. He slowly turns to see Dennis sleeping peacefully beside him, still facing him from last night. Cassie slowly lies back down as he remembers last night vividly -as he was not drunk, despite what one delirious person thought-. He swallows before taking in a deep breath, still able to taste Dennis on his tongue, and feel Dennis' soft plump lips against his own. "Oh my god. What did I do? What do I do?" Cassie whispers while looking up at the heavens in a panic. He wonders how Dennis will respond to this when he wakes up or if he'll even remember what happened. Cassidy knew that Dennis was a mess -a hot-hot mess-, but still he kissed him, and things would've gone further if Dennis hadn't been the only one there with any self-control. Then again, Dennis did kiss him back -even if for only a moment-. When Cass confessed his feelings to him, he pulled Cass closer, and even held his hand. Cassie wonders if that was Dennis' way of telling him something as he turns onto his side to face the beautiful sleeping man. He absentmindedly smiles to himself while looking over Dennis in all his sensual becomingness. He tilts his head while continuing to watch him as once again he wonders what Dennis might be dreaming about. He wishes for it to be him while tentatively moving his hand over one of Dennis' that's rested on the mattress in the small space between them.
Dennis' eyes flash open as there is a sudden knock at the door. "Dennis, I thought you said you had to get up at five." Finnie says from the hall unaware that Cassidy is in there with him. Dennis and Cass stare at one another for a moment, neither knowing what to say at the time. "Son of a bitch! I'm gonna miss my appointment." Dennis says while sitting up quickly, seemingly forgetting that Cassie is in bed with him. Dennis quickly gets up before throwing on a button up shirt and changing into a black pair of jeans. He then walks to the door and opens it to see Finn standing there with an oblivious look on his face as he takes notice of a half dressed Cassidy in Dennis' bed. Cassidy gets up. "Dennis, wait." Cass says not caring that Finn is standing there, wanting to talk to Dennis about last night. Dennis turns back toward him before sighing. "Cass buddy. Listen, don't worry about last night. I'm really sorry, but I have to go." Dennis says before leaving the room. Cassidy follows after him while pulling on his shirt -leaving his jacket by accident-. He and Finn share a brief look as he passes him, but Finn doesn't say anything. Cassidy runs downstairs and stops at the bottom of the staircase in the living room where Dennis is putting on a leather jacket. "What are you going to the doctor for?" Cass asks, earning Dennis' attention. He glances over at Cassie before walking over to a mirror. "It's not that kind of appointment." Dennis replies while readjusting his hair. "What kind of appointment is it then?" Cass questions while walking over to Dennis where he's behind Dennis in his reflection. Dennis gives him a look before turning around. "Don't worry about it. Okay?" Dennis says while looking deeply into Cassidy's eyes for a brief moment before walking toward the door. "Dennis. Wait. What about last..." Cass begins to say before Dennis interrupts him without turning toward him as he stands in the doorway. "Cass. I already told you not to worry about it man. We were both pretty drunk. So whatever happened, you can just forget it. It's fine." Dennis says without turning back to face Cass, not wanting Cass to see him cry as he thinks about what he said last night. Cass probably just wants to explain to Dennis that he didn't mean what he said and to let him down gently, but if that's the case -and Dennis is sure that it is- then Dennis would rather pretend like nothing happened. "But..." "I'll call you later. Okay?" Dennis says in a gruff voice before leaving.
