ALL SENSES BUT HIS HEARING WERE GONE.
He could hear the sweet melody of Mallory's violin, the angelic sounds that had brought him peace in the days of his youth, and that which would bring him peace now in the face of death. He had a million things he wanted to say to her, a million things he wanted to do before his last farewell, but his mouth and limbs were at their last surrender. He'd waited for this moment for so long, and yet now when it came, he was fighting it, clutching at the surface of consciousness, wanting to rouse back to life. But Mallory's tunes put him at peace, soothed his soul.
His time had elapsed.
He uttered his last prayers in his mind. He prayed for Mallory, that she would find the strength to keep on striving in his absence, to continue to be the fierce warrior he'd always known her to be.
He prayed for the safety of Diana Gilbert and for Ava Harrison's spiritual restoration.
He prayed for the damnation of Jane Camilla Anderson, for the triumph of justice.
He prayed for the boy he'd once hated. Jason Trevor. Prayed that he would find his back way to Mallory and be her solace in times of hardship.
He prayed that Susan and Samantha make it through these hard times
And finally, he prayed for himself, for his salvation and for God's mercy, that he would find the peace he'd never been able to find on earth in the afterlife.
And with that last prayer, Cole Trent took his last breath and entered that eternal abyss he for so long sought. But even in total nothingness, he could still hear her soft, calming melody.
Mallory's Melody.
