Sam's POV

I didn't go to school today. My head was pounding, the price of drinking too much at last night's party. Hungover and grumpy, I dragged myself to the kitchen, poured a lazy bowl of cereal, and slumped into a chair.

After I finished eating, I headed back upstairs, barely functioning. As I reached my room, I opened the door—and slammed straight into someone.

The omega. Jamie.

For a split second, time froze.
Sparks. Heat. A pull in my chest.
Then I heard it.

Mate.

My wolf, Shadow, howled the word through my mind, ecstatic.

And then she said it too—"Mate."

I panicked. My body moved before my brain could stop it.
I punched her.

She dropped like a stone.

No. No way. The Moon Goddess did not give me her.

"Hell no," I muttered, backing away. "No way she's my mate."

I looked at her—really looked at her—and all I saw in her eyes was fear. Pain. Sadness.
And I smiled.

"I, Alpha Sam, reject you, Jamie, as my mate and Luna of the Blood Red Pack."

The words spilled out cold and final.

"You ugly, fat bum," I added cruelly, just to twist the knife.
Why would the Moon Goddess pair me with... her?

I wanted someone strong. Someone beautiful. Not... this.

"You're a damn idiot," Shadow snapped inside me.
"She was perfect for us."

"Shut up, Shadow," I growled.

But the guilt hit quick and heavy. Ten minutes later, I was pacing.
She's my mate—even if I rejected her, I still felt the bond.
I needed her... Shadow needed her.

I headed upstairs to the attic to find her.
But when I opened the door—

She was gone.

Everything had been cleared out.
On the floor was a folded note.

Dear Blood Red Pack,

How could you treat a member of your own pack like this?
I have been nothing but kind.
Even as an omega, I cleaned, served, and even took the blame for things I didn't do—just so you didn't have to.

The least you could've done was let me go to school.
But it doesn't matter anymore. I'm better than all of this.

Sam— I accept your rejection.
And I hope I never see any of you again.

Hatefully,
Jamie

She accepted my rejection.

The words echoed through my skull, over and over.
Then—darkness.

Suddenly, I wasn't in the attic anymore.

I stood in a white void.
In front of me, glowing like a star, was a woman with silver hair and glowing eyes.

The Moon Goddess.

I dropped to my knees.

"Rise," she commanded. Her voice was cold. Disappointed.
"I am deeply ashamed of you, Sam."

I stood, stunned. "Why, Goddess? Why are you disappointed in me?"

"Because I gave you Jamie," she said, her voice ringing like thunder.
"I chose her for you. And you rejected her."

"So what?" I snapped. "I never loved her. Only my wolf did."

"Jamie is not like the others," she said simply.

"What does that mean?" I asked, confused. "She's not even a proper wolf—"

"You'll see in time."
"You'll see everything... in time."

And just like that, she vanished, leaving me in silence.
