"Wake up, Mommy!" Morgana's tiny voice pierced the early morning silence.

I groaned softly, then smiled as I opened my eyes to her bright face.
"I'm up, baby doll," I said, sitting up and pulling her into a big hug.

"Mommy, someone's at the door!" Eitan shouted from the hall.

I kissed Morgana's cheek and stood, my heart sinking a little.
I already knew who it was.

I opened the door to see Sam standing there, fidgeting like a guilty schoolboy.

"What do you want, Sam?" I snapped. I didn't mean to sound so sharp—but him being here brought back too much.

He looked at me with... regret.
Real, raw regret swimming in his eyes.

"I have to tell you something," he said, voice low. "And you have to believe me."

That got my attention.

I folded my arms. "Then say it."

He took a breath. "Kyle is planning to—"

"Get away from my mate. And my family."

Kyle's voice sliced through the air like a blade.
I didn't even hear him walk up.

Sam stepped back, but not before locking eyes with me.
His gaze wasn't angry—it was devastated. Like he'd just lost something forever.

I stared after him, confused.

What was he about to say?

I looked up at Kyle, who pulled me into his arms.

"Everything okay?" he asked, kissing the top of my head.

Why does something feel... off?

I shook the thought away.
"I'm fine," I said, forcing a smile. "Let's go play with the kids."

But in the back of my mind, Sam's unfinished sentence echoed like a warning I couldn't quite hear.
