Gene POV

I stood outside the door to our room, looking at the tray in my hands. There was a chicken breast along with plenty of greens and a dish of raspberries and blackberries, which she had been eating loads of while pregnant. I had also gotten her a chocolate bar, which was resting in the middle of the tray, necklace on top of it. All in all, in theory it was a perfect meal for her, with all the foods she both liked and was able to eat. Whether it would be enough to give me a chance to explain things remained to be seen. Taking a deep breath, I pushed open the door, walking inside.

"Shannon?" I asked.

"Go to hell," she spat, once again lying with her back facing me.

"I brought you dinner. And I know you're pissed at me, but I'm being honest when I'm telling you I wasn't cheating on you, I never kissed her or did anything more than give her a hug, I swear on my mother's life," I said.

"The hell did you even hug her for, huh? And don't lie to me, I-I heard what she said, I heard you planning to!" she said in a thick voice.

I set the tray on the bedside table in front of her, picking up the necklace and putting it on the bed in front of her.

"She was looking for Paul. You can ask him, he'll tell you he slept with her. I had just commented on how pretty her necklace was, how I thought it would look perfect on you, and she insisted I have it to give to you. I told her I couldn't just take her necklace, but she said you'd enjoy the gift and if you didn't know I hadn't paid for it or anything it wouldn't matter. I gave her a hug as a thank you. I promise you, that was all," I murmured.

There was a long pause before she looked at the necklace, picking it up as she rolled onto her back, admiring the way the light caught the pale blue gemstone.

"I thought it would look really nice with your eyes," I said.

"I want to believe you," she said, finally looking at me. "I want to believe you're being honest, more than anything, but dammit Gene you make it so hard sometimes! I love you more than anyone, that's why I'm having a baby with you, but you're so frustrating sometimes!" she cried.

I sat beside her on the bed, picking up her hand and giving it a squeeze.

"I'm sorry. Here, deep breath, we don't want you stressed," I said, putting a hand on her baby bump.

She sighed but nodded, letting go of the necklace in favor of resting her hand on top of mine.

"I'm sorry. I know you don't always trust me, and I understand. I promise you, Shannon Lee Tweed I promise you I'm done doing that kind of shit to you. Anything you want me to do to prove it, anything you want me to do to show you I'm serious, I'll do it," I said.

She gave me a soft smile, kissing me on the nose.

"I just want you to be a good partner to me and a good father to our baby."

"I will," I said. "That's all I want to do. That's what I plan on doing. And hey, just two more months until we're done with the tour and we're home and then I'll be able to spoil you as much as you want me to."

With a wince, Shannon sat back on the bed, leaning against the pillows as she picked up the necklace again.

"This is really pretty. Thank you. That was very nice of that girl to give it to you for me."

Nodding, I laid beside her on the bed, arm around her waist and hand resting on her baby bump, able to feel our child kicking.

"It was. I'm glad you like it."

"I'll put it on tomorrow when I'm not so tired," she said, setting it on the table before eyeing the tray hungrily.

I smiled, picking it up and gathering up a bite.

"Here, open up," I said, and she grinned, opening her mouth and letting me feed her.

I kissed her on the lips, watching her eyes sparkle.

"I love you," I said. "I love only you."

"I love you too," she said with a smile.
