When I walked into the house my mother was in the kitchen baking. She had flour everywhere and light music playing in the background. She saw me walk in and immediately rushed towards me. I dropped my bag and was enveloped into one of her hugs. I didn't realize how tough the last days scenarios had weighed on me. The tears started to fall and didn't stop. I started sobbing into her arms. It felt nice to be cared for by my mother. She shushed me and stroked my hair. It was in a braid and she had tucked all my flyaways down. "Tell me what's the matter darling." I finally looked her in the face and the tears returned. "I think, well I don't know what's wrong." I couldn't tell her the truth. I couldn't break her heart like that.
I sat down at the table and prepared to ask my mother what was going on. "How did you know father was your mate?" She laughed giddily. "When our eyes met I knew he was the one. Like the world stopped existing and we were the only people on the planet. I didn't know it yet but he had imprinted on me in that moment. We officially where mated at our union and well you know the rest." She blushed. I sighed, I didn't want to hear this. That was exactly how I felt looking at Harden. I began crying again. This would destroy me. This would destroy Kota and our pack. My mother knew something was wrong.
"Ella, did you imprint on someone?" The tears turned to sobs again as I hid my face in my hands. "I don't know." She smiled at me and wiped the tears from my face. "You don't have to be scared. We always knew this might happen someday. That someone would imprint on you, or that you would imprint on someone else. We know its not Kota." Hearing the words opened a whole world of pain. I clenched my fists and struggled to keep the wolf at bay. "He will never forgive me for this." I snapped at her. I stood up and ran to my room. I needed to be alone. No one would understand what was happening to me. No one would be able to look me in the eyes. They would kick me out of the pack for this. I was sure.
I jumped into the shower and felt it all wash away. For a moment I was feeling like myself again. I slowly unraveled my braid. I tilted my head back and allowed the water to rinse me clean. I dried off and slipped into a stark grey lounge set. I tied my hair into a messy bun and began some school work. Any distraction would due right now. I opened my window and turned on my Spotify playlist. Trig homework took a few hours, once finished I needed to head to my patrol. I felt a small breeze behind me. I looked towards the window and he was standing there. I gasped and took a step back tripping on my computer chair. Before I could fall and crash int the desk, Harden had grabbed me and pulled me upright. His touch set my chest on fire. The longing grew in me. He was cold, but his touch set something ablaze in me.
My eyes met his and he stepped away from me. He seemed displeased by something. "What are you doing here?" I growled at him. His eyes darted towards the window. "I, uh, I don't know." That was the first time I had believed a vampire. I felt my wolf start to come forward. I transitioned my eyes hoping to frighten him. Looking in the mirror behind him I saw them slowly shift from brown to piercing blue. I growled again. "You cannot be here, you have broken the treaty by crossing into our lands." He took a step towards me almost as if to challenge me. "You wont say anything. Ansley already saw it." I stepped up to him anger in my eyes. While my hands longed to touch him. "You cant know that her intuition doesn't work on us." He smiled. "Maybe not but she had a vision. It has never happened before. She saw the future. We believe her ability is evolving." I laughed in his face. "Oh yeah what did she see then?"
"She saw us running together, in the woods. We were laughing." He sighed and sat down on the edge of my bed. I returned to my chair pushing off my patrol for as long as possible. "I don't know what to make of this vision but whatever is going on has to stop. We, there is no we." I glared at him. "I don't know how to describe this. But seeing you for the first time the other day woke something up in me. I haven't dared let myself want anything in a long time." He stared at me through his eyelashes giving me a smoldering look. My breath was caught in my throat. "This isn't happening." I stood up and began packing my bag for another night in the pack house. That was usually how I spent most of my weekends. "Where are you going?" He asked. "I have patrol tonight. For your families sake I will hold off on telling the Alpha about your little rule break. But you cannot come here again. We cant do this. Understand." He smiled knowingly. "I cant stay away from you."
I turned and walked out of my bedroom door and made my way downstairs to the kitchen. My mother was no longer there but I smelled fresh pastries in the oven. I walked out the back door and made my way towards the boarder. He stood across the river staring at me. "Leave." I growled at him. He smiled at me and was gone. I jogged to the pack house and saw Kota with a few other members standing in the corner of the house like usual. When I entered he smiled at me. I looked away from him. I was too embarrassed to meet his glances. I changed into my athletic wear and waited for the others around back. Kota linked us. Head to your positions report to me with any discrepancies. Head out. I ran towards the southern boarder and began my patrol. Then I heard Kota again. Is everything ok Ella? You seemed off at the house. I huffed and tried to ignore his link. I shook my head. I had to respond his dominance wouldn't allow me to say nothing. I'm fine. Had a rough day of Trig homework. I heard his chuckle and the link ended.
