Chapter 12

"Evie," Alex nods as a greeting to me and I ignore his taunt as Nadia comes out from behind him.

She gives me a condescending smile and sticks out her hand, "Well hello again, I'm Nadia. Evie is it?"

I stare blankly at her, I don't want to associate myself with and be in drama. I decide to shake her hand and answer her, "it's Eva."

She giggles as to mock me, "Oh, you have to excuse Alexander." She leans on his side and puts her hand on his chest. "He can be-"

"Presumptuous?" I cut her off because I refuse to be someone else's doormat.

She makes a sound between a laugh and gasp but says, "Hm. Seems like you know the kind."

I raise my brow, "Well I've never been with one but I'm sure I can tell the difference between a decent and an indecent person."

Now Alex scoffs, "If you have something to say, say it to my fucking face."

I smirk in his face and move closer to him, "I doubt you can wrap your head around being a decent person. Happy birthday, Alexander." I shrug my shoulders and start to walk away.

"Seems like the only head that can't be wrapped around anything is yours," I hear Nadia say.

I whip back to my position. This didn't even concern her so why is she getting in this? Now I'm irritated of the interaction and wished he stayed where he did. "Oh yeah? Well next time you wear seconds, make sure you don't look so sloppy." I tell her with an attitude. I walk away from a gaping Nadia and a dumbfounded Alexander.

I feel my cheeks flush due to the anger I'm feeling right now. All I want to do is go home, lay in my bed, and have a drama-free night. I let my emotions get the best of me and I become filled with guilt. I'm leaned up against a wall away from the crowd, I click my tongue and take a deep breathe. When I look up, I see an attractive dark haired boy with grey eyes in front of me.

He wears a sly smile and I wonder what that's for. I have no patience so I ask, "What?"

"I'm just intrigued by your interaction with Sterling and his toy." He takes a sip of his drink, "I'm William but call me Will, you are?" He waits for my response.

I think about Astrid's statement about lying who I am because c'mon when am I going to see these people again?

I look at what he's drinking and it's a nice champagne color which makes me think of rose gold. "Rose," I state. He sticks his palm up towards me, "It's nice to meet you Rose, care for a drink?" He wears a sense of cockiness to him but it's a nice cocky, if that's possible.

I should be worried about stranger danger but I don't care. I don't know where Astrid and Damien are but I am the one who walked away from them. I'm compelled to go look for them or at least text them that I'm okay. I don't want to ruin their evening because they are also here to have fun, I shoot Astrid a text and tell her to text me when she plans to leave.

My thoughts go back to this guy in front of me, I want to reject him to hurt his ego but what I do next surprises me. I don't extend my hand into his but I do step out and say, "Lead the way." He nods and I follow behind him.

"So, I've never seen you here. How do you know the Sterling's?" Will asks me as our drinks are handed to us from the waiter. I get a club soda because drinking is a big deal to me. We continue towards double french doors and I wonder where he's leading me. I gasp as we pass the doors that leads out to a beautiful massive, green yard with tables and chairs set up with light strings illuminating our way.

It's a nice, airy night with a warm feeling and I'm glad not many guests are out here. "Oh, just through mutual friends, how about you?" I take sip of my club soda as we both sit down.

He hums, "Alex is my best friend, that little asshole." He laughs as I almost choke on my club soda.

I cough ridiculously and answer him,"O-oh," as realization hits me. "Uh, ye-cool- cool- cool." I try to not embarrass myself more but it doesn't work.

Will is still laughing, "You have a little something..." He points to my lips but I don't catch what he says. "You- never mind," He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a napkin to wipe my top lip.

"Thanks," I say with embarrassment. I feel so stupid right now in front of a hot guy. What a great combination.

"No problem." He gives me a smile. "By the way, you look really gorgeous in that dress. Do you-"

"There you are!" I hear Astrid's voice and I look up from my seat. "I've been looking for you! Don't ever leave us hanging again!" I see Damien walking beside her.

I scrunch my brows, "Wha-what? No, I texted you both." I pull out my phone to clear up the confusion with Astrid but the message is still typed out and not delivered. "I'm sorry, it didn't even send." I frown and show her my screen as she comes closer.

"It's okay. It just gave me a scare, that's all." She gives me a sad smile then changes her demeanor, "however, I see you've met the town's biggest player." She comments.

Did I hear her, correctly?

"The what?"

"Astrid, stop playing. I am not." Will responds. Damien scoffs behind her and I look at him then back at the other two.

Astrid rolls her eyes and whispers, "He is but he won't admit it. He's only here because of Alex." She goes to face Will, "You're lucky we tolerate you."

Will wears an expression I can't put my finger on, he seems rushed to get out of here and I don't mind going with him.

What does Ash mean by tolerate?

I remember his eagerness to ask a question."Will, you were going to ask me something?" He turns to face me and opens but closes his mouth again. I look between Astrid and Damien, "It's okay. What were you going to say?"

"Um, just if you wanted to dance?"

I think about it because I can't dance but I'd like to have some fun.

"Sure," I say with a smile. He starts out to the floor as Astrid widen her eyes and grabs my arm to say, "Eva, don't. Trust me on this."

I put my hand over hers and I understand it's from a place of concern. Is there something she isn't telling me?

"Thank you, Ash but I can handle a dance."

She looks worried but lets me go, "Just know we came together so we're leaving together. So please call if you need anything. I'm here, okay?" I nod and I'm so thankful I have her.

It's just a dance, I tell myself. You won't look foolish.

I turn around and I see Will a few feet away from us, he sticks his hand out and this time, I take it.
