"Wait up Niiko!" I follow the light-blue-haired girl as she runs ahead of me.
"Hehe, you'll have to catch up!" she sticks her tongue out at me. I groan and pick up my pace.
"H- how are you not tired?" I gasp, out of breath. After a while, Niiko had slowed down to a walk, allowing me to catch up to her. Currently, I was doubled over wheezing, while Niiko looked none the worse for wear.
"I guess I'm just fitter than you," Niiko teases me.
"Haha, very funny." I straighten my back.
"Hey look, there's a cafe there!" Niiko points to a small but cozy-looking cafe. "Let's go in there!"
"Alright." we enter the cafe and were greeted by the smell of coffee and fresh bread, along with a waitress.
"Hello, kids! Please have a seat!" says the waitress cheerfully, escorting us to a table next to the windows. I sit down opposite Niiko nervously.
"By any chance, do you two happen to be a couple?" the waitress asks us. Niiko's face turns pink.
"Ah- what? O- of course not!" Niiko blushes.
"Y- yeah, we're just two friends enjoying each other's company!" I stutter out. The waitress smiles.
"I see. Well, would you like anything to drink?"
"Bubble tea will do just fine," I tell her.
"W- wait, I was just about to order that as well!" Niiko exclaims.
"R- Really? Wow, talk about coincidences!" I say. The waitress looked at us bemusedly.
"Well, I'll be right back with your drinks," she says, before rushing off.
A very long and awkward silence ensued after the waitress left. I couldn't help but recount what the waitress just said.
"By any chance, do you two happen to be a couple?"
What kinda question was that? Of course we weren't a couple. Why would she think that-
Suddenly, I am hit with a thought. Wait, isn't this the equivalent of a DATE?! Surely not, right?
"Uh, Niiko?"
"Hm?" she jumps slightly from looking out the window and looks at me.
"I- isn't this kinda like......I dunno........the equivalent of a-"
"Date?"
"........yeah...."
"You think this is a date? Wow Meztli, and I thought you actually cared about me as a friend." Niiko's normally cute voice turns cold.
"Wha- no, it's not like that!"
Niiko glares at me and pouts. "So what, you don't think I'm girlfriend material?"
"Wait, n- no, it's not like that either! I uhm-" suddenly, Niiko bursts into laughter.
"W- were you teasing me?" I ask her.
"Ahahahahahaha, of course, dummy!" Niiko manages to say before collapsing into a fit of giggles again.
"Oh....." I felt relieved.
"Pfft, you should've seen your face, it was hilarious!" Niiko says.
"Ahaha, right. So um, I have a question."
"Go ahead," Niiko prompts me.
"I couldn't help but notice the way you handled the angels back there. It was.....well...AMAZING! How did you do that with so much confidence?" I ask her.
