Chapter 9: Eltrod POV

"Uh, Eltrod? Professor Agiliso told me to deliver these papers to you."

I snap out of my thoughts. "Thanks, Saranna."

"Is there anything else?"

"No that'll be it. Go on now, I'll see you around."

After Saranna left, I rifled through the papers.

"Let's see......what do we have here....."

There was a note on the papers. It read, "I got this report from the Head Guard at Wolfsbane Prison. I think you should read it, it has some things that I think will interest you. -Agiliso"

I take a look at the first paper. It had a mugshot of that assassin who tried to kill Eric. Underneath was the following:

"A close-up of the prisoner. He refuses to speak his name nor tell us anything about the Ghost Organization. Therefore, we are issuing a request to use torture."

"I never really liked torture, but I think in this case that assassin deserves it," I mutter to myself, before moving on to the next paper. On this, there was a paragraph. It read as thus:

"Log Entry 1: Prisoner continuously paces around his room. He has not touched any food given to him and shows no signs of hunger, therefore we've concluded that he does need to eat. Prisoner has also not touched any liquid, nor shown any sign of thirst, therefore we've concluded that he also does not need to drink. However, he has frequently requested cigarettes."

"Damn it. I had 'starvation' and 'thirst' in my mind as the two forms of torture." I sigh and then look at the last piece of paper:

"Prisoner has attempted to escape three times. At all three times, he was stopped. However, despite being hit with enough magic to kill a person every time, he only received minor injuries and a brief concussion."

I couldn't believe what I was reading. So that explains why he wasn't burnt to oblivion when he got hit by Lucy's Flame Geyser.

"I gotta show this report to Lucy," I say to myself and rush out of my office, taking the papers with me.

Soon, I was in front of a door with a sign labeled "Professor Lucy Fir's Office." However, before I even knocked on the door, it opens, revealing a very tired-looking Lucy in a nightgown.

"How did you-"

"Once you become an over-powered demon, having the ability to know when someone's in front of your office becomes laughably easy to accomplish," Lucy shrugs.

"Right. Sorry for visiting you when it's so late at night, but have you seen this?" I hand her the papers. Lucy glances at them before glaring at me with her brilliant green eyes.

"Eltrod......"

"What is it?"

"Do you really think you were the only person who got the papers?"

"Uh....."

Lucy sighs. "I swear Eltrod, you can be quite absent-minded at times. Oh well, come on in then." she opens the door wider.

I walk into her office. As always, it's clean and tidy, and everything was in its place.

"This place is as clean as ever, isn't it?"

"It's not much, I just do a bit of cleaning every now and then," Lucy casually dismisses my remark. "Anyway, sit down, I've been wanting to talk to you about this whole situation."

"Uh, shouldn't we talk in the morning? It's pretty late and you should be asleep-"

"Sit down, Eltrod."

"You got it."

Lucy pulls up a chair and sits opposite me. "Alright, so....."

"Yeah?"

"The assassin is pretty much immortal, isn't he? And he won't reveal any information about the Ghost Organization."

"That's the report, yes."

Lucy sighs. "We really do need that information though."

"Yep. I was thinking of maybe using torture to make him spill his secrets."

Lucy looks at me disapprovingly. "That's.....a bit inhumane."

"Do you have a better plan?"

"Mind control?"

"And you have the nerve to call my method inhumane."

Lucy pouts, but her smile betrays her true emotions. "H- hey, at least my method involves less violence!"

"Sure."

We both share a brief laugh, but quickly direct our attention back to the current situation.

"So, you think we should mind-control him into giving us info about the Ghost Organization?" I ask her.

"It's the best option we have."

"Besides torture."

"It's the most HUMANE option we have."

"Alright then, mind control it is. When do we...ahem... "visit" the assassin?"

"In two days? It's the weekend so it probably won't interfere with our teaching."

"Cool."

Suddenly, Lucy yawns.

"Okay, I don't care what you say, you're going to sleep," I tell her.

"But it's too early!"

"It's 10 PM."

Lucy sighs. "Fine, but I can't lock the office door if you don't get out."

I step out of the room, and Lucy locks the door behind us.

"Well, I'm going to my room, goodnight Eltrod."

"Goodnight," I say before wearily going back to my room.

I unlock the door to my room. The first thing I noticed was that the bathroom door was ajar.

"Huh, that's strange, I could've sworn it was closed," I think to myself. Suddenly, I hear something drop in the bathroom.

All my tiredness disappears, and I'm on full alert. I cautiously approach the bathroom door, summoning a glowing black orb in my hand.

"Who's there?" I call out. No answer. I slowly open the door and then see something rush towards my face.

Ka-thunk.
