I glance at the knife sticking out of the doorframe, then back at the assassin.
"Wow, you need to improve your aim," I taunt the ghostly assassin in front of me. He doesn't respond and instead launches a purple energy ball at me.
"That's rude, at least introduce yourself first!" I say, easily blocking the energy ball and retaliating with an energy ball of my own. It smacks into the assassin's face and explodes, knocking him back into the bathtub. I walk up to him and check the damage.
"Aw, I think I killed him," I say, looking at his burnt-off face.
"That's sad, but it can't be helped," I shrug. Then, I notice a little blue orb come out of the assassin.
"Ah, that must be the soul," I say to myself. It hovers around me, before attempting to float away.
"Oh no, you don't. Reaper's Scythe." A glowing black scythe appears in my hand. Using it, I reap the soul and safely stow it.
"Still collecting souls, Eltrod?" I hear a voice say. I nod, deactivating my scythe.
"I control powers that equal The Grim Reaper's, sir. I feel obligated to do so," I turn around to see Professor Cyrian leaning against the sink.
"You're not questioning how I got in?"
"Not really, no. You got in through the tiny crack in my bedroom window in bat form." I jerk my head towards the tiny crack I left open in my window. The vampire chuckles.
"Well Eltrod, you're as sharp as the day I first found you."
"Thanks, sir."
"Now, who do we have here?" Professor Cyrian kneels next to the deceased assassin.
"No idea."
"Have you tried checking his pockets?"
"Not really, sir," I reply, looking at the corpse.
"Well.......what are you waiting for?"
"Huh? Oh, right." I kneel down and start feeling around in his pockets. Soon, I find a wallet. Opening it, I find his Magical Ability Registration card, along with his name.
"Sir, check this out. His name's Alton Jayce. Seems like he was officially registered by the Council of Paranormal Beings." I give the card and wallet to Professor Cyrian.
"Huh, so he's an official Ability User. Ah well, criminals are still criminals," says Professor Cyrian. I nod and continue searching the assassin's pockets. All of a sudden, I hit the jackpot.
"A letter!"
Professor Cyrian jerks his head up. "Say what now?"
"A letter, sir." I open it and read its contents out loud.
"Hello, Jayce. We're assigning you the task of assassinating a man known as Eltrod. He resides in the popular school known as Paranormal Academy. If you manage to terminate the principal as well, we'll double the payment. If there are any questions, L will answer them.- The Ghost Organization."
"L.......who the heck is that?" I wonder out loud.
"No idea, but it seems like we have a traitor in our Academy." Professor Cyrian stands up. "Anyway, it's really late, and you need your sleep."
"Yes, sir," I say, stifling a yawn.
"We'll hold a meeting in the morning. Until then, goodnight."
"Goodnight, sir."
Author's note: Short chapter, I know. But don't worry! The next one will be longer. Anyway, that's all for today. Thanks for reading, and I'll see y'all in the next chapter! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
