I rush up the stairs to the hospital wing.
"I swear, why did Meztli have to go and get himself into trouble with the Angels?" I mutter to myself. I was so wrapped up in my thoughts that I collided with Saranna.
"Ow! What the- Eric? What are you doing here?" she asks me, rubbing her head.
"Hi, Saranna, I'm going to the hospital wing. Meztli managed to get himself involved with the Angels," I tell her.
"Oh. Well, that's unfortunate. Hopefully, it's nothing and he recovers soon," says Saranna.
"Mhm. Anyway, aren't you coming with me?"
"Oh, I really wish I could, but Professor Agiliso gave me the task of delivering these papers to Eltrod so yeah, I can't," Saranna grimaces.
"Ah, it's fine. Well, goodbye for now then," I say, going up the staircase.
"Bye! Tell Meztli I wish him a speedy recovery will you?"
"Sure thing," I say, before running up the stairs at twice the speed I was going before. In no time, I was at one of the many hospital wings in the Academy. I slam open the door and am greeted by three pairs of startled eyes.
"Oh, heya Eric!" Meztli calls out to me from the bed.
"Sorry I didn't get here sooner, I heard the rumor that you suffered a critical head injury just a few minutes ago."
"Meh, it's not that severe, really-" Meztli suddenly gets his head bonked lightly by that necromancer girl. What was her name? Niiko? Niika?
"Meztli, you know it's severe, why else would you have fainted?" Niiko scolds him.
"I had an allergic reaction to the tea?"
"Nice try."
Meztli groans. "C'mon Niiko, it isn't THAT bad."
"Whatever, you still fainted." Niiko sticks her tongue out at Meztli.
"He still fainted," Ehecatl nods along in agreement.
"You're never gonna let me live that down, are you?"
"Nope."
"Hey um, sorry to interrupt, but can I speak to Meztli privately? If that's fine with you guys," I interject. Meztli gives me a questioning look.
"Sure!" Niiko gives me a vibrant smile before going out of the room.
"It's not a problem," Ehecatl says, following Niiko. I close the door behind them and turn to face Meztli.
"So uh.......sorry about earlier-"
"It's fine. Really."
"I didn't think-"
"Eric, don't sweat it. It's fine."
I smile a genuine smile for the first time in what felt like ages. The brief silence was broken by the creak of a door. I turn around to see Niiko peeking out from behind the door.
"Hey uh, you guys done?"
Meztli laughs. "Yeah, we're done." he jumps off the bed. "I think I've completely healed, thanks to Ehecatl's potion."
"You're welcome!" we hear Ehecatl's voice call out from outside the room.
"The smell and taste were still disgusting!" Meztli calls back."Anyway, I think I'm gonna head back to my room. It should be getting pretty late."
"I think I'll follow suit," says Niiko, yawning.
"Alright then, I guess I'll follow you," I say, following Meztli out the door.
"I swear, we need to put more funding into the infirmary beds, they're super uncomfortable," Meztli says as we walk down the halls back to our rooms.
"Mhm."
Soon, we were in front of our rooms. I wave Meztli goodnight and enter my room.
After thoroughly checking my room for any ghosts (trust me, it happens), I finally slid into bed.
Am I going about this all wrong? Maybe Lani doesn't want to be revived. Maybe I really should move on.
However, I suddenly remember Lani's last words to me.
"I don't want to die."
That's right, she didn't want to die. No, she didn't DESERVE to die. She had her whole life in front of her.
I make up my mind. I'm going ahead with my plan to revive Lani. It's just a matter of how.
I awake with a jolt. I had another nightmare. This time, I was watching the scene where Lani stood up to Shadow Hunter, but as a bystander. I tried to tell her to run, but I couldn't speak. I tried running up to her and tackling her, but my feet wouldn't move. All I could do was watch helplessly as she was stabbed and collapsed to the ground. And that was around the time I woke up.
"These nightmares gotta stop, I'm starting to lose sleep," I mutter to myself sleepily, seeing that it was five in the morning. I lie in bed, looking up at the ceiling and silently thinking to myself.
The nightmares.........will they stop.......if Lani's revived?
Author's note: Kinda short chapter. Sorry, but it's all I got on Eric's POV for now. And besides, I have some ideas for other POVs so yeah. Anyway, thanks for reading, and I'll see y'all in the next chapter! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
