There's been whispers around the Agreste mansion.
Whispers of a visitor.
Adrien Agreste doesn't consider himself nosy, but he, too, feels swept up in this news. Almost inadvertently, he listens into the conversations of various staff members, hope rising in his chest.
Because this isn't just an ordinary visitor, not some businessman or politician, come to needle away at Adrien's father to get some scrapings of his fortune.
Well, apparently he's those things too, but also much, much more.
This visitor, whispers the staff members, is a healer.
And, they say, rumor has it, he can raise the dead.
Adrien doesn't get his hopes up. He himself is a superhero, but the power to bring back life seems almost unthinkable to him. There's limits, he assumes, on powers. His Miraculous certainly has limits. This visitor must be selling snake oil. There's no way he could heal Adrien's mother.
But that doesn't stop a shred of irrational hope from creeping into Adrien's brain. If his mother could be saved, it would make his life exponentially better. He'd be cared for again. Loved. Respected. His days of isolation and abuse could be over. And this Adrien constantly clings to.
So he counts down the days until this visitor is rumored to arrive; he can hardly bear the wait.
All Adrien wants to do is twiddle his thumbs and wait for this visitor, but, unfortunately, he's still got to live his overwhelmingly busy life. There's been no modeling photoshoots lately, thank God, but he still has the seemingly endless piles of schoolwork to do, on top of his superhero duties.
The crime rate's been going down recently. Akumatized villains are getting rarer and rarer, which Adrien finds odd, but is fine with. Just means he gets to stop robberies and the like, which are usually easier and quicker to deal with.
He's looking for crime now, running across the rooftops as his mind wanders further and further away. But his partner quickly drags him back into reality, pointing and yelling at something in the distance. "Hey! Chat, what's happening over there?" Ladybug turns to fix her gaze on him, glaring. "Are you spacing out again?"
"No, milady," he says, "I would never."
"Answer my first question, please?"
Chat sighs. "I can't see anything from this far away, but-" He pauses to listen. "-it definitely sounds like a commotion. Should we check it out?"
"It's not like we have anything better to do." Ladybug starts to swing in the direction of the yelling, Chat closely tailing her. It's about 11pm right now; it's probably just some drunk assholes being obnoxious, looking for trouble. But it never hurts to investigate.
