"HEY, HOW WAS YOUR HANGOUT? Did you make new friends?" Nawal chirped in a delightful tone as soon as her two kids entered the house. Mal turned her head away, trying to hide her tears, which she didn't realize were streaming down her face.

"It was fine. Everything is fine!" she exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air in annoyance. Nawal pouted her lips, taken aback by her daughter's sudden reaction.

"Sweetie... Did something happen? Is everything alright?"

The daughter shook her head, still trying to hide her tears, then stormed off to her room.

"Adam, sweetie, did something happen?" the lady asked her son, staring deep into his grey eyes.

"Yes. But she should be the one telling you."

That was all he said before he stormed off as well, leaving her with a baffled expression written all over her face. She turned to Maya, who happened to be standing beside her, and gave her a questioning look. Maya shrugged, then opened the refrigerator to grab a jar of orange juice.

Mal closed the door behind her with a loud thud, then sat down on the bed, and began to cry her heart out. It was as if she was just receiving the news. She didn't cry when she saw Dash's dead body right away, but that was only because of shock. She was sure her friends were doing the same thing somewhere too.

"Why did it have to be that way?" she wondered, wiping some of the tears away from her face with one swift move, but it didn't take long before there were fresh, hot ones replacing them.

The internal feeling of sadness was simply too much to handle.

-

The girl eventually came downstairs to grab a bite to eat. She entered the kitchen and opened the fridge, searching for something that might change her terrible mood. She ended up closing the fridge again, sighing in annoyance.

"Hey, I brought a bag of Lays on my way home... Are you okay?" she turned around to see her brother Rajwan. He had a sympathetic look written all over his handsome face.

Now that she was really looking, she had seriously handsome brothers. She was just too busy with her friends, or with acting, to care. Rajwan had green eyes, porcelain white skin (which she had envied him for), jet black hair, and . He was practically flawless, as anyone might've thought. Sure, he might say dumb things sometimes, but she couldn't stay mad at any of her siblings for long. It was a lost case.

"Probably." she stated simply, giving half a shrug. She heard her brother sigh, then a few seconds later, she felt firm arms wrapping around her torso. She stiffened for a moment, then eventually hugged him back.

"Thanks, Rajwan." she muttered as soon as he let her go. He gave her a soft, toothy grin, nodding in reply.

He left the kitchen soon enough. Mal sighed, then looked around the kitchen in boredom. She spotted a giant bag of Lays on the kitchen counter, and grinned at nothing in particular.

Grabbing it, she headed upstairs again.

-

She closed the door behind her, and took a questioning look at her phone, which was lying on the nightstand, and was lightening up for no reason. She grabbed it swiftly and looked at the screen.

One missed call from Beatrice.

She sighed, then began calling her friend, putting her phone close to her ear. Beatrice answered after a few rings, sighing heavily as a sign of sadness and disappointment altogether.

"Hey." Mal started, tears filling her eyes once again.

"Hey."

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, but I need to get out. Do you mind if I come over?"

"No, not at all! We can eat chips together."

Beatrice smiled, nodding even though she knew Mal couldn't see her. "That would be great, thank you."

They hung up a few minutes later. Mal got up from her bed to tidy up her room, then went downstairs to tell her mother that her friend was coming over.

Little did she know what was really coming for her.
