Opportunists

Religion was the ship I chose to travel in
Guided by the waves and winds from God
In God we placed our trust blind
But our fate was guided to nothing but havoc

Next time we added sails and wheel to steer
Paddles to shift the gear
Anchor to halt and wait until it was clear
Decks to observe front and rear

We were moving against God's will some said
But in no time they unapologetically adapted to whatever could have them fed
Without doubt they upgraded to engines
With no remorse they polluted water and air

Personal gains always outweighed principles
Principles constantly forced for personal gains
Religion was the ship that carried goods to aid the starving and ill
But man used the same ship to dump wastes to corrupt this world

They call themselves religious
What are they but opportunist
Chanting in every prayer how god is,
Most merciful and most gracious
But preaching their ideals only on,
How apocalyptic god's wrath is

Art was sin and artists were sinners
Love was lust and lust was evil
Food had religion but hunger was human
Alcohol was devil but medicines were saviours
Religious in the plainsight but opportunist indoors
Progressive in words but conservative in action

I wonder if they actually believe in God or in ideals of their religion
I mean to whom are they proving themselves religious?
Not to God, that's for sure
If creations are only to be from god so shouldn't be the destruction?
They call themselves religious
What are they but opportunist?
