Pete noticed how much his life has become a mixture of cliché love stories mashed into a horrid mess, kinda like those bad romance novels his mum reads. Gross.

Regardless, he woke up next to Mikey and across from the two girls who were already awake.

Cass put a finger up to her lips indicating for me to not wake the boy. He nods slightly and grabs a marker, beginning to scribble out a note on the boy's arm. See you at school, talk to you later. Xopeterpan

"Thank you" Pete whispers in Kaylas ear and she gives an approving nod, allowing him to slip out to get to school before them.

He didn't care for school that day, he mostly day dreamed, trying not to think about the cute boy who sits next to him in every class. Though, for chemistry they got assigned a giant project with no class time. His friends made jokes about the two meeting after school and Pete replied with something along the lines of 'thank god anal sex has nothing to do with significant figures'. Sure he felt guilty but he plans to make it up to the boy after school.

After practise he went over to Mikey's house since Mikey texted him saying he was there and not at the girls'. Which, I'm super thankful for, those girls can be scary and after the chemistry incident they did not have happy looks on their faces.

When Mikey answered the door he grumbled out a hello, making Pete realise he isn't doing so hot with the problem.

"I was wrong" Pete blurted out- a kind he uses with girls when he did something wrong.

"About what?" Mikey raised an eyebrow

Oh shit, he didn't ever have to go any further before. "You were right?" He tried.

Mikey rolls his eyes. "Let's just get this project done, I need to practise my solo"

"Mikes, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that stuff"

"Then why do you keep saying it?" Mikey fixed the black beanie on his head

"I just...I'm stressed and scared. I just need the team right now okay?"

Mikey frowns and leans against the counter. "Your dad?" He asks casually, which surprises Pete

"How'd you know?"

"Your coach was talking about it to the band director" Mikey sighs. "That really sucks, pressure to be just like your father."

"What's your father?" He questions.

"Just some guy who goes to work in an office building every day and rarely comes home"

Pete realised that the social barrier wasn't the only thing that separated them, it's also their families, experiences, knowledge. For some reason though, he prayed that the phrase 'opposites attract', would be true.

Wisely deciding not to push it, Pete just hugs the skinny boy despite the weak attempts to push him away.

"Mikey" he mumbles against the boys shoulder. "We're going to be okay"

"Yeah" he agrees sarcastically. "The name calling and beating from your friends totally makes a great relationship" Mikey doesn't even know why he's staying. Like, there's a hope inside him that Pete will come out, because Mikey actually likes this meat head. Sure Kayla and Cass have their doubts but it has potential to work.

"I know Mikes, I'm trying to figure out a way to stop it"

"Whatever" he mumbles pushing Pete aside.

"Hey, can I take you on another date Sunday?" Pete tries to bandage the problem but really it's equivalent to putting gum on a leaky pipe, it's not going to last very long. "I wanna make it up to you" Pete tried his famous puppy dog eyes, which Mikey was no match for.
