CHAPTER THREE
I was sitting on the bench that was near my parked car. Lisa was off, making out with her new boy, and Larry was still in the gym. "You look bored," Shang says, gracefully sitting beside me on the bench. It is now that I realize that what he is wearing is incredibly mature for a high school boy. He has on a gray Armani suit with nice Italian leather shoes. His black hair frames his face in a way that makes him look aged, closer to my age. "That's how I always look," I state. "Hmmm...I'm going to have to change that," he declares. I roll my eyes as he crosses his legs in a very manly way. How people mistook him for gay, I don't know, but then I've lived with my gay best friend for so long that I know the signs, even for the ones that can hide it the best. "So, we're just going to sit here?" I intone, playing bored; though I am so excited I'm shaking. Clasping my hands so he can't see me tremble in anticipation, I sneak a peek over at him and see the sun shining on his jet black hair so that it looks bluish. He catches me staring, and smiles, looking down at my mouth. I stand before anything happens and start walking towards the gym. "What're you doing?" he asks, with a confused expression on his face, which is cute because he looks like a little boy. I shake that thought away, because I can't like him. Again, I CAN'T LIKE HIM. Getting up, he follows me. Putting my hard exterior on, I say, "I have to get Larry."
"But I'm not done talking to you," he says, grabbing my arm. I yank my arm away, and tell myself not to hit him, which is my first instinct. "Don't grab me," I snarl. He holds his hands up in a submissive position, "Sorry," he says, looking truly sorry. I nod, accepting his apology, then briskly turn and walk quickly towards the gym.
He walks silently beside me. "Why won't you leave me alone?" I ask, not looking at him. I mean there has to be a reason for him talking to me other than wanting to know me. Most boys want to know me just because I'm rich and a princess, though only a few people know I'm a princess. He shrugs and keeps walking beside me.
"Oh how sweet! You came for me!" Larry exclaims. I can see him looking at Shang and me, like he's sizing up how far along we are. I roll my eyes, "Can we just go?" I ask. "No, I'm afraid not," Shang says interrupting our conversation. Just as I was about to say something rude, Larry breaks in and says, "And why is that?"
Right when Shang is about to say something, the group of people that Laura and Lisa were with, came out of the gym also, and surround us. I could see a mask cover Shang's face. It shocked me, the way he hid his feelings in front of them. It reminded me of someone I knew, but I couldn't put a face to it.
He grows still beside me as Larry engages in conversation with Dale. I can feel myself wanting to go home and get away from these annoying people. "Do you want to go?" Shang whispers to me. I nod, doing anything just to get away from those people.
Okay, so there is something very important that I feel that I need to share with you before any more of this story goes on. I am a princess, whom you already know, but I am not human. There is a whole race out in the world that my father leads, that is not entirely human. You could say we are warriors, but in a very advanced way. Killing is our specialty. Our race is very competitive and powerful. My father is the reason why we live in secrecy from humans, because there are some people on the High Council that would like to enslave humans, and rule the earth. It would be very bad if that happened. There are people trying to kill us, because once my family is dead, then the Warriors can go free and do what they want.
Let me explain a little about our culture though, before you get lost. Most of our people live in the wooded area of Germany. My father's family came to America, just to escape the multiple assassination plots against us, even though our family is still in power. The Council lives in Germany, along with the rest of our race. Other than us, there is one family that has royal blood and could take the throne if we all died out. They are originally from Japan, and have a history in the art of Samurai training.
In our culture, there are two kinds of people. There are the ones that live there life with their powers used only for getting along in living. Then there are the people who train so their powers can exceed normal strength. These people are the army in our society. They protect our people from harm, and make sure nothing bad happens to our race. I have always wanted to train and be in the Militia, but my father forbade me, because I am heir to the throne. We agreed that I would be able to learn how to fight and to control my powers, but I would not fight unless I was in danger.
Our people are naturally tall, skinny, and strong. Every person has fighting skills better than any human. It is your choice is you want to enhance those skills to any other level. I have already gotten to the point that I can hear my attacker from a mile away and I know how to kill a man in several different ways without even touching him.
This is why I cannot like Shang, because he is human, and my father has already picked a husband out for me. I will not know his name until I am to be queen, and my father is dead.
