"Jake!" The young boy called out, searching the house. "Jake, where are you?" He opened and closed doors over and over seeking his older brother. "Logan, sweetie, why are you yelling?" A red-haired woman walked over to the young middle-schooler. "I'm trying to find Jake, have you seen him?"
"I think he's in the bathroom,"
"Alright, thanks Mom," Logan shrugged, strolling down the hallway to the bathroom. He knocked on the door lightly. "Jake? You in there?"
"AH!" He heard from inside, along with a loud crash. "Ow.."
"Woah, are you okay?!"
"Yeah-.. No--" Jake mumbled attempting to stand up. Logan twisted the doorknob to open it. "WAIT! DON'T OPEN THE-" Jake shrieked, but it was too late. "..Door.." Logan's eyes widened. In front of him was his brother sitting on the floor, normal right? Well, not exactly. There was a black piece of fabric on the floor next to him, he was wearing a white piece of fabric that seemed to be covering.. A female chest?
"L-Logan! Uh-" Jake stuttered, standing up quickly and covering his chest with his arms. "Jake..?" Logan muttered, walking closer to him. Jake backed up, "I-It's not what it looks like-!"
"Why do you-"
"Why do I what? There's nothing wrong with me, this is totally normal! You're seeing a totally normal teenage boy, nothing wrong!" Jake was almost shaking at this point. "What on God's green Earth is going on here?!" Logan yelled.
"Didn't Mom say not to take God's name in vain until your 18?"
"I don't care! What is that on the floor, and why do you have.. Those!" Logan pointed to Jake's chest, which he failed at hiding. Jake grew red from embarrassment. "LOGAN! You're 9 you shouldn't even know what these are!" Jake yelled, attempting to change the subject. "Just answer the question!" Logan yelled back.
"U-Uh.. Leave and I'll tell you," Jake sighed. "Promise?" Logan nudged on, lifting his pinky finger into the air. "I promise," Jake rolled his eyes, hooking his pinky finger under Logan's. The younger boy then nodded, exiting the bathroom. Jake let out a sigh of relief, collapsing onto the floor. Well, that's out, He thought to himself. How can I explain this to him..? Jake thought of how to word what he needed to say, as he slipped an oversized shirt on over his shoulders. Jake reached for the binder on the floor and exited the bathroom to his room, where he placed the binder under his bed.
"Okay. Now tell me," Jake suddenly heard. He nearly jumped in shock. "Logan! Don't care me like that," He grumbled, sitting on his bed. "And, just come here." Jake patted the space next to him, signaling Logan to sit down next to him. Logan did so, staring at Jake intently. Jake sighed, rolling his eyes. "Okay, uh.." Jake began, thinking of how to word it.
"Uh.. Have you.. Have you heard of LGBTQ?" Jake asked his brother. Logan nodded with a confused look on his face. Jake sighed. "I'll explain it later. But, I'm the T."
Logan titled his head. "Meaning that I was born a girl and was in fact a girl until I was 9, you were about 2. That's when I figured that I wanted to be a boy. It's hard to explain, but that's about it," Jake explained. Logan stared at Jake in awe. "That's so cool!" He cheered. "It's like your a shapeshifter!" Jake giggled a little, ruffling his hair.
"Yeah, you could say that," He smiled. "Now, why don't you head off to bed? I'm sure Mom wouldn't want you to stay up too late."
"But- I wanna know more!" Logan whined.
"What?-" Jake giggled.
"What were you like as a girl?"
"Well, my personality was the same, the only difference was that I had longer hair," Jake answered bluntly.
"Do you have a picture?"
"I'm sure there's one somewhere. But seriously, it's almost 10, you need to be in bed mister."
"Noo!"
"Fine. I'll make you, then." Jake smirked, standing up. He then lifted Logan up and over his shoulder, walking to his room. "Jake! Put me down!" Logan cried out between giggles. "This is what happens when you don't listen," Jake hummed. As he entered the younger boy's room; placed him down on his bed and pulled the covers over his younger brother. "Now, goodnight," Jake waved, flicking the lights off and closing the door as he exited.
As soon as he was about to head back to his room, Jake noticed a light underneath Logan's door. Jake rolled his eyes playfully and walked back over to the door. He opened it to see Logan standing by his nightstand. "You wanna know that badly, huh?" Jake sighed. Logan nodded excitedly. Jake giggled at his little brother's excitement before leading him downstairs. Jake searched around for an item that he had memorized perfectly.
After opening and closing countless doors and cupboards, the blonde boy finally came upon a thin black book with the words "Class of 20XX" on it. It was the yearbook from 4th grade, just before he had decided he felt more comfortable as a boy. "What's that?" Logan asked, peeping over Jake's shoulder. "My yearbook. Come on, I'll show you a picture of me," Jake answered, strolling over to the Livingroom where he and Logan sat down on the long grey couch.
Jake opened the book, taking a stroll down memory lane. He had something to say about each and every page, recalling every student, every memory, and every given moment. Luckily, Logan enjoyed listening to Jake's rambles. He did it a lot, he enjoys explaining his life to other people. And Logan enjoys listening. If he were listening to other people it would be annoying, but the way his brother explains makes it much for enjoyable. The two loved bonding over it.
As Jake explained every little detail of the book to his younger brother, their mother watched from the kitchen. She smiled. Whenever she saw the two bonding, she couldn't help but smile.
Jake then looked at the clock. 12:14 am. "Oh, crap-" He gasped, gently shutting the book. "Okay, now it's time for-" Jake looked to his brother beside him, who seemed to have fallen asleep against the older boy's shoulder. "-bed," Jake smiled, letting out a soft giggle. He slowly stood, careful not to wake his sleeping brother, placed the book onto the coffee table, and turned to the young boy on the couch. Jake then softly lifted him into his arms, taking him to his room.
Upon entering, Jake placed Logan in his bed once more, tucking him in under the blankets. Jake smiled at him before placing a gentle kiss on his forehead. "Night, bud," He smiled, leaving the room after flicking the lights off. Jake then strolled to his own room, sitting down on his bed. He looked ahead of him to the dresser. In front of him were 3 photos. One of his family, one of his friends, and one of the music club. He smiled at each one. He was lucky to have so many people in his life that care for him.
Jake's eyelids grew heavy, as he laid down in his bed. Just before falling asleep, he heard a familiar barking at his door. Jake sat up and rolled his eyes playfully once more. Walking to the door, he opened it to reveal a black and white dog sitting down with big puppy eyes. "Don't worry, Oreo, I didn't forget you," Jake smiled, petting the dog's head. "Come on, bud." Jake then motioned for Oreo to enter. Once he did so, the fluffy dog jumped up on Jake's bed and laid down. Jake giggled and laid down next to him. "Night, Oreo," Jake spoke before flicking off the light on his nightstand and slowly drifting to sleep.
