Tuesday
Jake stood in a large garden, his hands brushing over the pedals as he walked through the field. A gentle smile formed on the young boy's face as he continued on. The cool autumn breeze calmed the peachy-blonde boy's nerves as he stopped and sat down by a small stream. He dipped his fingers in the cold water, trailing it's essence. His eyes flowed gently with the water as he watched it. It rose, it fell. It curved around bends, and led small fishes to who knows where. Jake leaned back against the soft grass beneath him. He felt all his worries being carried away by the breeze.
Suddenly, a familiar voice rang through his ears. It sounded soft and welcoming, like he could have it on repeat forever. The voice was just as the river. It flowed with the wind, rising on long words, and dipping with shorter ones. The voice sounded as if it wanted to tell you a calm story to help you feel better whenever you feel down. "Jake? Is that you?" The voice called. The blonde boy pulled himself up onto his feet. He turned on his heel, his hazel eyes met a familiar pair of soft lighter ones. "I didn't expect to see you here," The tall student smiled. That smile. That smile that could brighten any dimmed day, no matter how dark.
The gentle breeze tugged at their hair, forcing it to flow with the wind. The two boys' hair moved side to side as it was carried by the wind. "Looks like the wind is playful today, huh?" The taller boy giggled. Jake nodded, just barely hearing what he had said. His mind was fixed on who the boy was. He seemed familiar. From his loving eyes to his fluffy hair, everything about him was familiar. But, he just couldn't quiet tell who it truly was. It was as if they were just a blur to him.
"Hey, you look stressed." The voice spoke softly. "Is everything okay?-" Jake nodded reluctantly, but the other acted anyway. They took hold of Jake's cold hands in their own, looking him in the eyes. "You can trust me," They said. Jake felt a light blush crawl onto his face before getting a quick blip of their face. It was only for a moment, but he could just barely see who it was.
Suddenly, the sound he most despised most rang through his ears along with the weight on his legs from Oreo laying there being lifted. Jake slammed his fist against the alarm on his bedside table, shutting it off. He groaned as he rubbed his eyes. The blonde boy then pulled himself up, swinging his legs over his bed. "Morning Oreo," He smiled, petting the dog beside him. "Want breakfast?" Oreo let out a loud bark as an answer. "Okay, okay! Let's not wake everyone in the house," Jake giggled, raising his hands as if he surrendered to the fluffy beast.
Jake changed into his usual gear after strapping on his binder. The two of them then exited the room and walked down the carpeted stairs into the kitchen where Jake's mother was. "Morning Jake," She smiled. "Mor-ing," The teen spoke within a yawn, rubbing his eyes once more. He then poured dog food into Oreo's bowl, before pouring cereal into his own. Just as Jake went to pour the milk, he heard a dramatic gasp behind him. "You pour the milk after the cereal?!" The voice spoke dramatically. "You're a disgrace. Off with your head!" Jake turned around to see a giggly Logan standing behind him. "What are you talking about?" Jake raised an eyebrow. "You don't even pour milk." Logan ignored him and sat next to him at the counter. Their mother passed a bowl to him before walking over to the living room. As the two brothers ate, Jake couldn't quiet get his mind off of the dream. Who exactly was that? And why were they even there? It wasn't Daisy, which shocked Jake more then it should. He normally always dreamt of her. Why not last night? He tried so hard to remember their face, but it was nearly impossible. Just a figment of his imagination now.
"Yo, you're gonna be late," Logan said with a mouthful of cereal. "Don't talk with your mouth full," Jake spoke, standing up and throwing his bag around his shoulder. "I'll see you later." He bid farewell to his mother, Logan, and Oreo, and exited the house.
Jake strolled down the wet street, his sneaker causing small splashes in the even smaller puddles. He loved walking to school. He always had the choice of the bus but he never took it, even in Elementary. The walk was far calmer, and he had time to gather himself before being shoved into the hellhole that is his school.
Everyday was another walk through hell. He felt out of place. Uncomfortable. Different. He felt like the odd one out. No one else looked or seemed to be trans in any way. He'd never seen anyone like him. At least not in person. It scared him everyday to think about. Who knew what his friends would think of him? Would they ditch him? Would they turn their backs on him? He hated to think about it. He hated being alone. He hated being who he was. Why can't he just be normal? Why did his mind have to tell him to be a boy? Why did he have to change? Why couldn't he have just been born a boy? All these thoughts and more rattled around in the young boy's brain daily. Weather he's walking to school or getting ready for bed.
Jake stopped in his tracks, his black sneakers getting soaked from the puddle beneath him. He turned around, looking behind him. The wind pushed at his face, telling him to keep moving. He stared into the distance. Thinking. He shook his head. "No," He mumbled. "Not again." The blonde teen then continued on to his way school, which was now only a few yards away.
Stepping onto the familiar campus, he sought out his three friends. Luckily, they stand out in the crowed. Jake walked over to the three boys, waving to them. "Morning, guys!" Jake smiled. "Hey, Jake," Drew spoke, turning to the taller boy. "Have you seen the school paper? They're talking about your competition." The tanned boy showed his phone screen to his friend. The blonde boy rolled his eyes at it. "When is that competition anyway?" Henry poked in, tilting his head. "Uh.. 3 weeks from now I think," Jake answered, shrugging his shoulders. "Are you ready?" Liam then asked. "For the competition? You of all people are asking that?" Jake raised his eyebrow at his tall friend. "Not the competition! Asking little miss Daisy the big question. You prepared? Or are you gonna chicken out again?" The brunette boy then crossed his arms, rolling his eyes. Jake's face flushed pink as he made fists with his hands. "Y-Yes I'm prepared!" He combated. "I've been prepared. I just need to get her outside after the competition and I-I'll ask her."
Jake oddly felt as if he forced that out. Why? He's always liked Daisy. Or could it be..
He remembered the dream. That voice. Who was that even? Was it someone at the school? They seemed to have brown hair.. Who does he know that has brown hair? Liam? No, his hair is far too dark. They also had light eyes? Who has light eyes? Zoey? No, she's dating Drew, plus she's a total jerk. Zander? No! Zander hates him with every fiber of his being. That Stacy girl in class? He doesn't even know her! The memory slipped his mind. He couldn't remember if his life depended on it. He didn't even get their gender.Suddenly, the second sound Jake hated the most rang through the four boys' ears; the school bell. "Uhg, Biology. Anyone wanna skip?" Henry groaned, pleading for freedom. "Don't even think about it!" Jake pointed. "You're already in enough trouble already." Drew and Liam giggled at Jake's parent-side taking over. "Come on guys, let's get this over with." The three boys then began their way to class.
