Kane's POV
I hide behind one of the cars on the side of the buildings road. I watch him look around almost spotting me before he starts walking away. The moment he's out of sight I walk into the building.
I need to see if Azura is okay. I run up those steps to the third floor and straight to her door at the end of that hall.
I stand there about to knock when I heard a voice behind me. "Kane." I turn and see Edgore leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. "I knew it." He said.
I scoffed and clenched my jaw.
"Why are you here Edgore?"
"I could ask you the same thing Kane."
"We have to leave, now." I walk past him and he follows behind. "My father has been looking for you! You fled the meeting." I told him while I drove back to the warehouse.
"Why are you protecting her? She saw what we did?!" Edgore banged on the car door which I don't appreciate.
I just know he was going to try and use this against me. Use Azura against me.
"Edgore, she is just a girl I know." He looked at me and laughed like he knew I was lying. "I met her at a club and I helped her out with some boy drama. I come check on her every once in a while." I mean I'm not lying. I did meet her at a club that way and I do sometimes come check in. It was none of his business but he would press me. "My question is, how the fuck did you find her and why were you here? Hmm?" I looked him in the eyes. "What we're you trying to do?" Edgore only gave me a small smirk and looked out the window.
"Listen boy," I parked and turned to him. "I been working by your father's side longer than anyone in the gang." He said as if it mattered. Like dude... I don't care.
"I followed you that day. I saw you leave with the girl who saw us shoot him." I stayed quiet for a minute. This man seriously followed me. "No one saw us do anything. I was going to stop by her place anyways but she just happened to be in the area."
"How come she denied knowing you at all then? Hmm?" -Edgore
"I could only assume you manhandled her and her survival instincts kicked in. If I was her I would lie too." -Me
"Whatever Kane." -Edgore
I drove us back to the warehouse and we walked in together. Father looked at us with an angered expression on his face.
"Where the fuck have you been?" Father shouted as he got in Edgores face and I moved away to sit with everyone else. "I called for the meeting hours ago and I had to send my son to search for you!" Edgore just stared into his eyes. He didn't show the fear that anyone else here showed.
"Where did you find him Kane?" My father asked me. I choked up trying to find and answer to give him. "Um... I found him walking near a building by himself." I could have lied and said something else but I didn't.
"Meeting over! Both of you come with me to my office. Now!"
Edgore and I both followed my father back to his office. I have no idea what he wanted to talk about but it was probably about Edgore.
I closed the door behind us and when I turned around Edgore received a hard punch from father. Edgore just shook it off and stared my father dead in the face.
"Your son has been visiting a girl who he claims to have met in a club." -Edgore
"You believe otherwise?" -Father
"No. I believe that part of the story but I also have reason to believe that she knows about our business a couple weeks ago and he denies it." -Edgore
Father turned to me and I rolled my eyes and was about to start talking but he cut me off.
"Edgore leave." He said keeping his sight on me not ever turning to Edgore who smiled and left the room. "Father she's innocent she has nothing to do with anything!"
"I don't care. You are going to be taking my position but you to do that, you are to be married Kane." I knew exactly where this was going and I knew I wasn't going to like it.
"Father," I laughed. "She's just some girl that I know an check up on every once in a while." I backed away from him.
"Don't you dare go soft on me Kane! You remember the last time you trusted a girl?! Hmm? She betrayed you! Don't let this woman be the same thing!"
Now that angered me. He knew how much that affected me and he dare to bring it up as if it was nothing.
"AZURA IS NOT WILLOW AND SHE NEVER WILL BE!" I banged on his desk but he didn't even flinch. My whole body shook in desperation. "Azura? Hmm, I think I'm going to have to isolate you again. Turn you cold."
My body froze at that sentence. He wanted to send me on the hardest jobs that required me to kill and steal more. He wanted to strain me from my free everyday life.
He wanted to make me cold and heartless, like him.
