Lamia

For two evenings now I've been having dinner with Aiden. But he isn't much of a talker anymore. He's so silent, I can't even hear when he chews. I still don't have the answers for everything, but he's been giving me two questions every dinner. But he doesn't give me clear answers.

I'm at the third dinner with him. Spaghetti it is tonight. It looks and smells so good. I pick up my fork, and I feel his eyes on me. I twirl the fork in the spaghetti and put it in my mouth. I looked him in his eyes, as I sucked up the one pasta that fell down. Aiden looks down at my mouth. His breathing became slower. I smiled to myself and looked down.

"Two questions, Lamia," he says and picks up his glass of water.

I think.

"What were you doing right before this diner?" I ask and fill my mouth with more pasta.

"I was taking a shower."

I look up at his wet hair. It's curly like I remember, but it's longer. He notices my stare, and smirks. "You have one more," he reminds me.

I look into his eyes and ask, "are you here alone?"

He frowned, "you know I'm not here alone, Lamia. You have seen other people here."

"I know, but where's your family? They vanished with you too last year." He closed his hand into a fist, and looked down.

"My father is at another house." He answers hard.

"What about your mom?" Aiden snaps his head up, and looks at me mad.

"You only get two questions, Lamia."

He stands up and storms out of the room. The door slams and I flinch. I walked out, and straight up to my room. I close the door, and lay down on the bed. Did something happen to his mom? He definitely didn't want to talk about her. I liked his mom a lot. She was always so sweet to me. She always looked so happy whenever Aiden brought me over. I hope she is okay.

I walk over to my window and look out. I see a door open, and a person steps out. I looked closer when they stepped out in the light. It's Aiden. He's talking to someone on the phone, and he doesn't look happy. He hangs up and runs a hand through his hair.

It's like he could feel me watching him, cause he looks directly up at me. I quickly dug down, and ran over to my bed.

Day six. Six whole days and nights I've been in this house. It's the morning, and it's still dark outside. I couldn't sleep. I miss my friends and family. Especially Kaya. I don't know if people think I'm dead. They probably do. I look at the clock. It's 5 am.

The door opens and I sit up. A person walks in. They closed the door again. I stick out my arm and turn on the lamp that stood on the nightstand. I looked up at the person, and I saw Aiden.

"Hi," he says.

I don't say anything. I watch him closely, as he walks over to me.

"You need to come with me."

I stand up. "No."

"Yes, I need you to look at something for me."

"What?"

"A painting."

"A painting?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Because I want your opinion." He walks over to the door again, and looks over his shoulder. "Come with me." I don't know why, but I follow him. We walk down the hallway, and inside a room. It looks like a living room. It's brighter than the rest of the house. White couch and chair. A couple of windows, and the walls are decorated with paintings. Aiden pulls out a painting. It's a picture of a house with trees around it.

"It's between this," he held up the picture. "Or this," he points to one that's already hanging on the wall.

I look at it. It's sunset. The sun is going down behind the ocean. It's really pretty. I walk over to it. "I like this one the best." He looks at me, and I see his lips forming into a little smile. "What?" I ask.

"Nothing," Aiden says and puts the other picture away. "You can go back to sleep now, if you want."

"No, I can't sleep anymore." I walk over to the window. It's completely black outside.

I feel Aiden standing behind me, and I feel his breath. It sends shivers through my body. He put his hands on my waist, and turned me around. We look into each other's eyes. Just as I open my mouth to talk, the window beside us shatters into a thousand pieces. Someone shot at us. Aiden pulls me down onto the floor, but he stands up again and pulls out a gun. Another window shatters and Aiden shoots back. People come running inside the room with guns.

"Catch whoever shot at us, and find out who they are," he says and some people leave again.

Aiden takes my arm and quickly leads me out of the room. He doesn't let me go until we are in my room. He sits me down on the bed, and walks over to the window. He closes the curtains, and turns on the light.

"Are you going to tell me what just happened?" I ask and stand up again.

"Yes, but not now," he says shortly and walks out of the room.

"Yes, but not now," he says shortly and walks out of the room
