"Did you see that other new student?" I asked Bree, Dani, and America (Dani's girlfriend), the next day. "Asher."
"I don't even notice the kids that are in any of my classes except for you guys, so no, for sure," Bree crossed her arms. We were sitting in homeroom, after our teacher had said all the announcements.
"And clearly we don't take notice either," America answered, nudging Dani. They exchanged glances in unison, causing them to giggle.
"Well, he's so cute," I gushed. "And his name? I wonder what it'll be like to be Lissie Anderson and not Lissie La Salle."
"Why are you already thinking about changing last names? Slow down, missy," teased America.
Someone threw a backpack onto the desk behind me. "Who are y'all talking about?" I spun around and saw Elijah taking a seat.
"Oh, Elijah! You're in this homeroom too?" grinned Dani. Both Bree and I noticed America's immediate frown.
"Yup. Neighbours and classmates. What could be better?"
Dani winked. "Well, we're also teammates. Remember?"
"Teammates?" repeated America. She glanced back and forth between Dani and Elijah. "You didn't tell me that. You guys got a fourth player? I... I was going to offer, actually. But, I guess not."
"Oh, don't be silly, America! You don't play," teased Dani. I squeezed my eyes shut. Dani could be so clueless sometimes.
At that moment, the bell rang. I immediately grabbed my bag, waved to the others, and headed out.
After school, everyone on the team met up at a local coffee shop.
"I don't care what you guys say but the end of the game yesterday was legendary," Dani remarked.
"I know. The other team didn't even stand a chance," added Elijah.
I nodded and then noticed a familiar blonde girl entering the shop.
I groaned. "Speaking of the devil..."
Everyone looked over and then back.
"That's Ragged Puppets' leader?" asked Elijah.
"Yup. Dixie Lemond. She's really good and she memorizes all the maps beforehand," confirmed Bree. Behind Dixie, I saw a brown haired guy in a blue hoodie.
"Oh, no," I gasped. "She's with Asher. Why!?"
"What are you talking about? This is perfect," Bree said. "You can finally talk to him. This is how we'll beat Dixie. Go on, go up to him."
I shook my head."No, I can't."
Elijah looked at Asher and scowled. "You're interested in him? I highly suggest you rethink. We went to the same school before and then got transferred to the same place. Here. He is not as great as he seems."
"Well Lissie doesn't have to really be interested in him. Just flirt with him a bit and try to distract Dixie. It's a solid plan," Bree argued.
I noticed Dixie grinning at Asher and sighed. "Fine. What do you want me to do?"
