"That was so good," Bree laughed, once we've reached my house. They helped me to the washroom.
"Shut up, Bree," I said. Why did I listen to her in the first place?
Bree looked offended. "It's not my fault. Dixie tripped you. We all saw it."
"So what? She's not the one super embarrassed right now. I am. She's probably laughing with Asher right now."
My best friend crossed her arms in front of her chest. "So you're blaming me for this? Wow. Dixie was the one who kicked you off her team, remember? Not me. I quit her team for you. I'm your true friend. Why are you taking her side?"
"Bree, stop. Can we at least clean her up first?" Dani scolded.
"Wow, you all are against me. That's great," Bree shouted, storming off.
"Bree! Wait!" I yelled, but she was already gone.
"Leave her be, Lissie."
20 minutes later, I was all cleaned up.
"Thank you, Dani. I owe you one," I hugged her.
"Of course!" she smiled, checking the time on her phone. "Ohmygosh! I'm so late. I have to go, bye!"
"Late to what?"
"Date with America," she hollered, before the front door slammed shut.
My puppy Finley bounced over with his leash in his mouth.
"Okay, fine. I'll walk you."
I walked outside and after 2 blocks of walking, I bumped into Elijah.
"Hey!" he called out. "Didn't know you lived in the neighbourhood. So, how are things?"
"Good, why?"
"Oh, hey... Lissie," a voice said from behind me. I already knew who it was. Dixie.
I turned around, crossed my arms, and raised my eyebrows at her. "What do you want?"
"Nothing, just wanted to say good game to your fourth player," she nodded at Elijah.
"Thanks," he said.
"You played well, but not good enough. I guess the team's as good as their weakest player. Anything to say Lissie?"
Elijah faced me. "Lissie's a great player."
"How well do you even know her?" Dixie tilted her head.
Elijah cleared his throat. "We... we just met."
She laughed. "That explains it. You see, Lissie's going to let you down when you need her the most."
I reached down and picked up Finley. "I'm going. See you later, Elijah."
"Same for me, I assume," Dixie said. With one last glare towards her, I headed back to the direction of my house.
