"... I don't really have a choice."
Kaori felt irritated, but she flashed a smile anyway.
"Glad to hear that, Inoue. You may retrieve your belongings from your dorm and I will wait for you at the University entrance." L, who she felt awkward considering as the true 'L,' said monotonously, yet his wide eyes relayed his pleasure.
"What?" She muttered in surprise. "So soon?"
"Did you expect to have a waiting period? I'm not sure that you won't try to flee if I give you time. Of course, you'll be free to do as you please once we actually catch Kira. In fact, Watari could even help you find your own apartment."
Kaori was slightly confused by all of the information that L was giving her. She asked herself if she would regret this decision, considering that jail may have been a better option. And then, there was the fact that she was struggling to accept that the odd man standing before her was actually 'L' as he had claimed to be.
"Do you have a problem? It's not too late to call the police." He trailed, waiting for a response from the girl.
"No. I'm still on board with your Kira Case, or whatever. But I can't help but find this, and you, to be really strange." She narrowed her dark gaze.
L hummed again, which seemed to serve as a default response from him. "Well, I can answer mostly all of your questions later, as I'm sure you have many; for example, am I really 'L,' and who is that 'Watari' person I mentioned?" The fact that he managed to replicate her speech patterns in two of the questions that circulated within her head startled her. He had just met her, and he already knew her persona as the hacker, KI, and he managed to understand her thought processes.
Kaori clenched her fist with aggravation. "I'll go pack up my things." She mumbled angrily and began to walk back towards the University, yet L stopped her to throw in further information.
"One of the detectives on my team will be going with you." A young man rushed behind the girl, appearing as though he were late. "And he's finally here."
She turned with an irritated expression. It was so cold to the point where the new person, seeming about five years older than Kaori herself, raised his hands innocently. He had short black hair, a kind face, and warm brown eyes.
"Matsuda, keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn't do something... questionable." L instructed to the young man, who he addressed as 'Matsuda,' which Kaori assumed was another alias.
"The dorm advisors will question him if he enters the girls' dorm with me." The girl informed.
"As far as I know, it's not uncommon for a man to be in a girl's dorm room these days. Just say that he's your boyfriend or something." The strange 'L' explained in his typical tired tone.
"But Ryuuzaki..." Matsuda began.
But Kaori spoke before the troubled young man could continue. "Ryuuzaki? Is that another alias?"
"Mm... smart girl." L said again. "It's what I'm called at the investigation center. It would be helpful if you would call me 'Ryuuzaki' when we leave as well."
"And just more demands..." She mumbled as she pouted. "Whatever. Let's get this over with." She sighed and continued forward, not turning to make sure that Matsuda would follow.
"Nice meeting you, Kaori Inoue." L spoke louder as they walked away, only aggravating the girl further.
Matsuda hurried to her side like a child. "So, your name is Kaori Inoue, right? Is that an alias, too?"
